Our summer interns recently spent time giving back by helping get the Boys & Girls Club of Dubois County ready to welcome local youth! It was a great opportunity for our interns to connect with the community while demonstrating teamwork and servant leadership.

“The JASPER-engineered pistons feature a smooth, fully machined, anodized crown that acts as a thermal barrier, helping reduce carbon buildup,” said Brad Boeglin, JASPER New Product Development Group Leader. “We’ve added additional oil return holes, 12 in all, to improve oil drain back and transitioned from a three-piece low-tension oil ring to a two-piece diesel-style. This change reduces the risk of oil rings from sticking and results in lower oil consumption.”

“We’ve made significant improvements in sealing between the head and block,” Boeglin said. “The head gasket has been redesigned with a ‘D’ shape to provide a better seal between cylinders. In addition, steel inserts are CNC-installed into the block to increase durability and better handle the high clamping forces from the head bolts.”

The JASPER remanufactured Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar Gen II engine is covered by a nationwide, transferable, parts and labor warranty of up to 3 Years/100,000 Miles. Full warranty disclosure is available upon request.

Here at Jasper Engines & Transmissions, we use a 2-stage hone process (also called plateau honing) on our diesel engines.

Historically, a plateaued surface was created by honing the cylinder once to create a single surface texture. The engine’s own action was then relied upon to ‘run or break in’ the surface, wearing away the peaks and leaving behind areas of ‘plateaus’.

In the ‘80s, concerns for fuel economy and emissions drove a stronger push for more efficient engines with tighter tolerances. This led to the development of processes to create the plateaued surface in the factory rather than waiting for the engine to do the work.

The high-quality 2-stage process has several benefits, including:
Better ring sealing
Maximizes lubrication to the piston and piston ring, thus reducing scoring risks
Better oil control and reduction of blow-by gases into the crankcase
Prevents premature wear on rings and cylinder walls
