ABOUT:
The Hagan Ace Hardware story began with two people, and has evolved into a fourt

h generation business. Following is a little history of the stores, the founders, Don and Ann Hagan were born and raised in Callahan. In 1950, Don began working part-time at Brandies Hardware store, owned by Cliff and Lucille Brandies (Ann's parents), in Callahan. During this time, he met Ann Brandies and began a relationship that was to last a lifetime. In August 1955, he married Ann and began working full time at Brandies Hardware store. Brandies Hardware and its employees did just about anything their customers needed. They did plumbing and electrical installations; sold and serviced appliances, Evinrude outboard engines and water pumps; and painted houses. Waiting on customers and helping solve their problems was, and still is, very gratifying. They learned the name of every customer, to make them feel welcome. In 1962, the Hagan's branched out on their own and purchased a small hardware store in Hilliard, FL. The store was a mere 1050 sq. In 1964, they joined Ace Hardware. In 1972, the Hagan's built a new store in Hilliard (4,800 sq. ft.), across the street from the original store. New merchandise was added to better serve the community. The business continued to grow to eleven stores branching out from Hilliard, Glen Saint Mary, Mandarin, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, St. Augustine, Anastasia, East Palatka, Yulee and Callahan. The stores range in size from 9,000 sq. to 60,000 sq. and carry a wide range of hardware products, paint, tools, electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden, plants, BBQ, outdoor furniture, pool supplies, lumber, kayaks, paddleboards, fishing and marine and shoes & clothing. Each store is unique and presents a merchandise selection suited for the community. The Hagan's son, Bill, a 1975 graduate of West Nassau, began working for his dad early on. He spent many hours at his grandfather's Brandies store growing up right next door to the booming business. By 20 years of age, Bill was managing his own store. He not only has managed several stores, but also is a family man. He and his wife Debbie have two children, Jacob (Rhonda) and Leah (Garrick), and six grandchildren. They are very active in their church community. In 1990, his father Don Hagan officially retired. Since that time, he has become the owner. Now, Bill's son, Jacob, has become a big part of the company, assisting his dad in many different ways. Currently, Jacob is the Director of Store Operations for the company. What an amazing legacy Mr. Cliff and Mrs. Lucille began! It now has truly become a fourth generation business: Cliff Brandies; Ann and Don Hagan; Bill Hagan; and now, Jacob Hagan.

🌟 A Fond Farewell & A Warm Welcome 🌟

After more than 15 years of dedicated service with Hagan Ace Hardware, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tina Doerer as she begins her well-earned retirement. Tina’s leadership, commitment to our customers, and passion for serving the Anastasia Island community have made a lasting impact on our team and everyone who walked through our doors. We wish her nothing but happiness, relaxation, and new adventures in this exciting next chapter!

At Hagan Ace, we believe in growing leaders from within, and we’re excited to announce that Laurie Moritz will be stepping into the role of Store Manager at our Anastasia Island location. Laurie has served as Assistant Manager at our St. Augustine store for the past year and brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and heart to her new role.

Get to Know Laurie! 🌊
1️⃣ Laurie grew up in Champaign, Illinois, where her father owned a car dealership and she learned the value of customer service and hard work from an early age.
2️⃣ She is a published children’s book author, combining her creativity and passion for storytelling.
3️⃣ Laurie was honored as Miss Congeniality in the Miss Illinois National Teenager Pageant.
4️⃣ She spent her winters growing up on Florida’s coast, creating cherished ocean memories with her family.
5️⃣ After both of her parents passed away, Laurie chose to return to Florida because some of her happiest memories were made here. Her goal is to help others create those same special “ocean memories that last a lifetime.”

We are grateful for Tina’s legacy and excited for the future under Laurie’s leadership. Be sure to stop by and say hello the next time you’re in the island neighborhood!
