$47MM US Gulf Exploration Rights Bid Round – Offshore Players Line Up!

The latest US Gulf lease sale is officially in the books — and the industry response is strong. Big Beautiful Gulf 2 (BBG2), the second of thirty lease sales under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, generated $46,976,423 in accepted high bids. Thirteen companies submitted 38 bids on 25 blocks covering ~141,000 acres in federal waters. Major players including BP, Chevron, Shell, LLOG, Woodside Energy, Anadarko, Houston Energy, and others showed clear appetite for new exploration opportunities — with BP’s single $21.9 million bid on Green Canyon Block 404 alone representing nearly 45% of the total revenue. This sale reinforces the momentum in US offshore energy development under the current administration’s focus on energy security, job creation, and economic growth in the Gulf.

BOEM announces next offshore lease sales in the U.S. Gulf and Alaska

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has finalized plans for a December 10 Gulf of Mexico lease sale, offering 80 million acres across 15,000+ unleased blocks, as part of the new One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) which mandates two lease sales per year through 2040.

Additionally, BOEM has proposed a 1 million-acre sale in Alaska’s Cook Inlet for March 2026, initiating a 60-day comment period. Both sales will carry a 12.5% royalty rate, marking the first major offshore offerings under the current administration.

Bacalhau Production Begins

Equinor and its partners have officially started production from the Bacalhau field in Brazil’s Santos Basin, one of the largest pre-salt developments with recoverable reserves exceeding 1 billion boe.

The Bacalhau FPSO, operated by MODEC, is among the most advanced in the world — 370m long, with a capacity of 220,000 bpd. Its combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power system sets a new standard for low-carbon, cost-efficient deepwater production, targeting ~9 kg CO₂ per boe.

Eni strengthens its position in Côte d’Ivoire’s deepwater frontier 🇨🇮

Italian major Eni has acquired the I-707 offshore exploration block near its 2024 Calao discovery, expanding its footprint to 10 offshore blocks in the country.
