We are incredibly proud to celebrate two exceptional summer interns who have made a lasting impression on our entire MAI team! 🎓

Meet Christian Salehi, St. Louis School's 2025 Valedictorian, and Shea Yamaguchi, the 2025 Salutatorian. When these outstanding students approached us at the St. Louis career fair expressing interest in engineering internships, we didn't hesitate - we hired them on the spot!

Over their time with us, Christian and Shea have exceeded every expectation. They quickly mastered new skills including AutoCAD, Revit, and construction management practices. We even had them contribute to the St. Louis School Newell Hall Renovation Project and participate in Facilities Committee meetings alongside our senior team.

Both students earned scholarships for their academic excellence, with Christian heading to Harvard University and Shea to George Fox University in Oregon to pursue engineering degrees.

Their dependability, eagerness to learn, and professional maturity remind us why investing in Hawaii's young talent is so important. These two represent the very best of the next generation, and we couldn't be more honored to have been part of their journey.

Christian and Shea - mahalo for choosing MAI this summer. We know you'll achieve incredible things, and we'll be following your success with pride! 🌟

🌺 What an amazing day we had at our MAI family BBQ this past weekend at Magic Island! 🏝️

Nothing beats good food, great games, and even better company. From friendly competitions to surprise prizes, our team showed that we don't just collaborate on incredible projects – we know how to have fun together too!

Moments like these remind us why we love being part of the MAI ʻohana. When you work with people who feel like family, every day is a little brighter. ✨

Today we're honoring our founder, Dennis Mitsunaga, who built Mitsunaga & Associates, Inc. on the same values he brought to fatherhood: excellence, integrity, innovation, sustainability, collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and resilience.

Dennis didn't just create an architecture and engineering firm - he built a legacy rooted in hard work and heart. Those who knew him remember not only his dedication to delivering exceptional projects across Hawaii, but also his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to everything he did, whether he was in the office or spending time with his family.

The values Dennis instilled in MAI over 50 years ago continue to guide us today. His belief that doing great work and caring for people go hand in hand shaped who we are as a firm - and it's a reminder that the best leaders are often the best fathers too.

Today we're reflecting on the projects that make us proud to call Hawaii home. From our LEED Gold UH Athletics Complex to the innovative stormwater management systems we've designed across the islands, we've been fortunate to work on projects that protect the 'āina we all love.

Our Civil Engineering team has been pioneering Low Impact Development strategies here in Hawaii for years - because when you live on an island, every drop of water and every piece of land matters. It's not just good engineering; it's our kuleana to future generations.

Whether it's designing sustainable campus facilities or creating infrastructure that works with Hawaii's natural systems instead of against them, we're grateful to contribute to a more resilient Hawaii.
