It’s exciting to see new solutions being explored right here in Hawaiʻi.

Our Honua Waterworks team recently had the opportunity to learn more about the Honu Hub, an innovative wastewater treatment system being tested as one potential solution to Hawaiʻi’s cesspool challenges.

As part of Hawaiʻi’s waterworks industry, we believe in staying connected to the technologies and solutions that can help strengthen our infrastructure, protect our natural resources and serve our communities for generations to come.

Honua Waterworks has partnered with Zelinsky, Hawaiʻi’s only local CeramaWrap® coater, to provide an additional coating option when project timelines, availability, or unexpected needs call for a local solution.

CeramaWrap® ceramic epoxy coating provides an added layer of protection for ductile iron pipe and fittings in demanding applications, including environments with saltwater exposure, chemicals, or prolonged sunlight.

For projects in a pinch, Honua Waterworks can help coordinate CeramaWrap® coating services with Zelinsky, with special pricing available through our team.

➡️ Submit an inquiry at HonuaWaterworks.com to discuss your project needs, availability, and see how our team can help.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is one of several materials used in underground utility infrastructure and serves a variety of purposes, including drinking water distribution, sewer systems, irrigation, and stormwater drainage.

The PVC pipe shown here is manufactured for potable (drinking) water systems. Depending on the project and municipal standards, PVC is one of the materials used to transport clean water to neighborhoods, schools, businesses, parks, and other community facilities.

PVC is valued for its durability, corrosion resistance, and long service life. Unlike metal pipe, it won't rust or corrode over time. Its smooth interior helps maintain efficient water flow, while its lightweight design makes transportation, handling, and installation more efficient. These qualities have made PVC a reliable choice for many underground water and wastewater applications.

Although these pipes spend their entire service life beneath roads and communities, they play an important role in delivering essential water and wastewater infrastructure that supports everyday life.

At Honua Waterworks, we supply PVC water pipe from trusted manufacturers like Vinyltech PVC Pipe and Diamond Plastics, along with the fittings, valves, and accessories needed to complete water infrastructure projects throughout Hawaiʻi.

We're grateful to have Reyn as part of our team this summer and hope the experience has provided valuable insights he can carry into his studies and future career as an engineer.

Every day, water travels through an extensive network of pipes, valves, fittings, and other infrastructure before reaching our homes, businesses, schools, and communities. At Honua Waterworks, we're proud to supply the materials that help make these systems possible across Hawaiʻi.

Reliable infrastructure is built to serve communities for decades, but the way we use and care for our water systems matters, too. Simple everyday actions can help reduce water waste, minimize unnecessary strain on infrastructure, and support the systems our communities rely on.

Here are a few simple ways you can help:

💧 Repair household plumbing leaks promptly: Dripping faucets and running toilets can waste thousands of gallons of treated drinking water each year. Fixing small plumbing issues early helps prevent unnecessary water loss.

💧Report leaking hydrants or broken water mains: Promptly reporting leaks to your local water utility helps reduce water loss and allows repairs to begin sooner, keeping the public water system operating efficiently.

💧Water landscapes efficiently: Water during the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation, and consider native or drought-tolerant plants that require less supplemental watering.

💧Keep grease, oils, and chemicals out of drains: These materials can clog sewer lines and create costly maintenance challenges for wastewater systems. Proper disposal helps keep those systems functioning as intended.

💧Inspect irrigation systems regularly: Broken sprinkler heads, damaged valves, or leaking irrigation lines can waste large amounts of water without being immediately noticeable. Regular inspections help keep systems operating efficiently.
