Hampden Hardware & General Store Hampden Hardware & General Store is closed Hampden Hardware & General Store has gone out of business. The 480 Main St.

store was founded in 1962 by the late William Bureau. The store was scheduled to close in October of 2001. The latest owners and long time Hampden residents, Mark and Linda Casey, bought the store in late September of 2001. The Casey's thought it was important that the town have a hardware store. But declining sales brought operations to an end on Feb. 29, 2016

In the end sales suffered due to th

e internet, large stores, and the fact that less residents are doing their own repairs and improvements. The owners found that an Independent Hardware Store can compete with the Big Box and Chain Stores on price, but have a very, very difficult time competing with those large stores' advertising programs. Hampden Hardware was one of the last stand alone hardware stores in the area. The owners would like to thank their loyal customers.
