SERCOS stands for Serial Real-time Communication System and uses fiber-optic communication. While SERCOS is a robust, noise-resilient system, it requires specialized communications technology and can be very difficult to troubleshoot. C.I.P. or CIP stands for Common Industrial Protocol.
