My boys were adamant about going Surveying with "Dad" today! We finished up 3 jobs and still made it home early. Not sure if I will break even after paying them but they were good help 😂

🌲 Did you know? 🌲

Surveyors often use “hacks” or “chop” marks on trees because as the tree heals and grows, a scar will remain. This scar will persist and can be visible for decades as evidence of a boundary line.

One typical method for a corner witness mark is 3 parallel lines about equal distance apart that face the corner on the ground. The witness tree is usually just a short distance from the actual corner.

Despite being extremely helpful in boundary line identification, tree hacks are a dying practice in surveying. Nevertheless, we continue to use them for establishing new lines and are always on the lookout for them on known lines.
