During tonight’s State of the County address, County Executive Jessica Fitzwater highlighted key priorities and progress made throughout this term in office.

The CE also announced a term report outlining the implementation of Transition Team recommendations. Agriculture initiatives highlighted:

🌱“Agriculture remains a core economic driver for the County. With nearly 55% of the
County’s land dedicated to agricultural use, we continue to honor our agricultural
roots while building a dynamic, forward-looking economy. Establishing the Office of
Agriculture and committing to permanently preserving 160,000 acres of farmland
reflects our administration’s support for farmers and the broader agricultural sector.”

Frederick County Office of Agriculture / Homegrown Frederick is launching Farm2Food a first of its kind!

Presented by NASDA Foundation, Farm2Food brings together a small cohort for a 12-week accelerator program designed for value-added agricultural producers interested in leveling up their product development.

Weekly topics range from understanding your customer and testing product ideas to formulation, food safety, packaging and shelf life, costs, pricing, and pitching to buyers.

Not only are we celebrating the International Year of the Woman Farmer, but October honors National Women's Small Business Month! This month's feature highlights the incredible ladies of Thanksgiving Farms!

"Run by sisters Darby Zimmermann, Melanie Zimmermann, and Louisa Roberts, the 57-acre farm traces its beginnings to their mother, Timothea Zimmermann. In 1979, Timothea was one of the first women to secure a business loan in Frederick County. With that support, she purchased the farm that would become both a livelihood and a legacy. Her story—and the sisters’ continued work—reflects the vital role women play in feeding communities, stewarding the land, and building successful agricultural businesses."

What a week! Grateful for the chance to connect, learn, and celebrate our amazing agricultural community here in Frederick County.

Our team had the honor of attending and speaking at the Mobilize Frederick Regenerative Agriculture Tour, where we got to spend the day at Moon Valley Farm and Johnsville Meadows Farm, followed by an inspiring Frederick County 4-H Youth Development Farm Tour, where the next generation of agriculturalists got out in the field to hear from some of the incredible farmers across the county.

We wrapped up the week at the Frederick County MD Farm Bureau Annual Banquet and Meeting, surrounded by folks who care deeply about the future of farming.

Feeling energized by the conversations, the innovation, and the dedication of everyone working to strengthen agriculture in our community. Here's to continuing the momentum! 🌱🚜💚

We had a great time at Visit Frederick - Maryland’s annual member breakfast! This year was especially meaningful as we celebrated their 50th anniversary.

The event highlights the contributions of tourism to Frederick County. 2025 marked another record breaking year for visitor spending! It’s inspiring to see the positive impact tourism continues to have on our community and we are proud of the agriculture and craft beverage operations for their contributions! 🍎🍺

🎉Congratulations to Emma Jagoz, Moon Valley Farm owner for being honored with the 2026 Organic Stewardship Award from Rodale Institute.

This recognition honors a commitment to responsible farming, environmental stewardship, and producing food with care and integrity.

We're grateful for local farmers like Emma who work every day to protect our natural resources while helping feed our communities. Well deserved!
