Workshop Radio! Another upbeat and cheery audiobook while we unbreak stuff- A World Undone by G.J. Meyer. The story of World War One, and many hours of it. Some good insight into the behind-the-scenes politics of the start of the war and between the main actors during. I don't think you can ever beat Dan Carlin's WW1 Hardcore History podcast- which I now want to listen again- but this is a worthy addition to the WW1 fold. Maybe next we will find something a little more up tempo!

A Day in the Life of a Small Engine Technician, part 17. It's halfway through the season and the stress is starting to show! Numerous mowers coming through with spindles that are failing. This one takes a place well up the rankings of how badly failed it was! You can see where the blade was hitting the deck skirt...it made a little noise! No saving this one- the whole assembly was replaced. And the one next door that was gritty feeling and noisy? That one got saved with just bearings replaced. Equipment: High mileage Hustler Fastrak.

A Day in the Life of a Small Engine Technician, part 16. Holy Neglected Maintenance, Batman! Check out these photos... The new service parts replacing the old. The anti-scalp wheels on this deck needed to be replaced two seasons ago...at least! The trouble with letting things get to this stage, besides cut quality issues, is that the jarring around of the wheels can wallow out the bolt holes where they attach, and the rougher ride adds premature wear to the deck mounting system- and those things are much more expensive to fix than these wheels! Equipment: Altoz XR zero turn.

A Day in the Life of a Small Engine Technician, part 15. Anyone seen a bolt with compound threads before? At first glance at the base of this blade bolt from a push mower looked like coarse thread. Then the customer handed me the tip piece. Fine thread. Huh? Well, this is what happens when (in his words) you "just give it a tap" with your air impact gun set to 'destroy.' It stretched and broke this fine thread grade 8 like nothing. Lesson for customer- ease back on the dial, maybe buy a torque wrench! Equipment: Old, rusted out TroyBilt push mower bought for $10 at auction.

A Day in the Life of a Small Engine Technician, part 14. Holy worn bearings, Batman!!! These caster bearings were largely absent on the outside ends, and quite fun to extract and replace! If you hear a 'clack' sound when you hit a bump or hole with your caster wheel, it's time to check the bearings and replace them if needed- wait too long and the wheel rim itself could be damaged beyond repair. Equipment: Redmax CZTX.
