Just a guy in a garage, sometimes I make cool things for fun.

Not a business or sales page guys! Sorry random people, I just make for people I know, their friends or whatever I feeI like.

Little short of the target curve, actually I checked it and I’m right at the bare minimum for the wakizashi 😬

Rough grinds look ok, it’s ready for handsanding but I’m not excited about that.

The next blade from the crucible needed more area to show more carbide patterns.

Figured a cleaver fits the bill, however the starting bar was already drawn out so I made a mini version.

I also got to finally use my dual press die!

Aimed for Wootz, and learned I wasn’t even close! But I’m digging this first crucible steel patterning. I love the accidental Hamon but I think it made my pattern little hard to see.

The guys in the craft continually refer this as a Journey, I think I am beginning to understand and respect it.

Looking forward to making the next one!

Forgot to post this one. Nice knife for the mother in law!

My wanna be Wootz actually has a cool pattern to it! But I still have a lot of finish work left.

Wouldn’t have made it this far without the help of experts in the craft. From their educational Wootz and crucible steel videos they share, along with answering personal DMs quickly got me going towards a proper direction.

Everyone should really look up Peter Burt Knifes via Instagram and YouTube. This man is incredible, and really offers insight to the process and is someone to inspire to.

First Crucible Steel Etch!

Forged the ingot down and cleaned to inspect the surface. No idea if that pattern is showing good/ok/merrr signs, but it sure looks cool.

Careful forging should change the pattern to what I want! Maybe!

Now that I have the break in competed. I was able to play around with the tune so I can switch for forging to forge welding temps by regulator.

This design sure made that simple, now how to forge some crucible steels!

First burn in on the ribbon burner forge. I’ve been very pleased with the build and design on this.

It’s a pricy beast but going with HM’s DYI plans really made this affordable for me!
