☀️🌡️ School’s Out! Stay Safe in the Summer Heat! 🌡️☀️

With summer break right around the corner, more families will be spending time outside enjoying pools, sports, parks, and vacations. As temperatures rise here in North Texas, it’s important to recognize the dangers of heat-related illnesses before they become emergencies.

💧 Tips to Stay Cool This Summer:
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat
• Never leave children or pets in a vehicle — even for a minute

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or weakness
• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Muscle cramps

➡️ If someone is experiencing these symptoms, move them to a cool area, give them water, and help them chill out.

🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency):
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Loss of consciousness
• Hot, dry skin or stopped sweating
• Seizures
• Extremely high body temperature

📞 If you suspect heat stroke, call 911 immediately. While waiting for responders:
• Move the person to a cool area
• Remove excess clothing
• Cool them aggressively with water, fans, or ice packs

🚑 Heat emergencies can become life-threatening very quickly, especially for children, older adults, and those working or exercising outdoors.

Let’s all enjoy a safe and healthy summer break by staying hydrated, staying cool, and looking out for one another. ☀️🚒

Over the past few weeks, three of our firefighters have had the opportunity to represent Prosper Fire Rescue through CPR classes and local career day events. Educating and connecting with our community is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, and we’re always proud to share more about the fire service and the importance of lifesaving skills like CPR.

What makes this even more exciting is that two of these three firefighters are among our newest hires, and they are already making a positive impact by helping strengthen community relationships and showing exactly what Prosper is all about.

Whether it’s responding to emergencies, teaching CPR, or answering the tough career day questions like “Do you slide down poles?” and “Do you sleep at the fire station?” — our crews are always happy to serve.

We’re proud of these firefighters for stepping up, representing Prosper Fire Rescue, and helping make our community safer, stronger, and a little more informed… one CPR class at a time. 🚒❤️

As we celebrate EMS Week, today’s EMS Education Day highlights the importance of training, preparedness and lifesaving knowledge in our community. ❤️

Did you know Prosper Fire Rescue offers Family & Friends CPR classes for residents? These hands-on classes help participants learn the basics of CPR and how to respond confidently in an emergency before first responders arrive.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, coach, teacher or simply want to be prepared, CPR education can make a lifesaving difference.

🔥🧯 Do You Have a Fire Extinguisher in Your Home? 🧯🔥

A fire extinguisher is one of the simplest tools that can help stop a small fire from becoming a major emergency. Every home should have at least one easily accessible fire extinguisher—and everyone in the house should know how to use it.

📍 Good places to keep extinguishers:
• Kitchen
• Garage
• Outdoor cooking/grill area
• Workshop or utility room

💡 Remember: Fire extinguishers are meant for small, contained fires only. If the fire is spreading quickly, producing heavy smoke, or you feel unsafe—get out immediately and call 911.

🧯 Know the PASS Method:

➡️ P – Pull the pin
➡️ A – Aim at the base of the fire
➡️ S – Squeeze the handle
➡️ S – Sweep side to side

🚨 A few important tips:
• Check the pressure gauge regularly
• Replace or service expired extinguishers
• Keep them visible and easy to access
• Never place yourself between the fire and your exit

The best time to learn how to use a fire extinguisher is before you ever need one. A few seconds of preparation can make all the difference in an emergency.

❤️🚨 Know the Signs of a Heart Attack — Act Fast 🚨❤️

A heart attack is a life-threatening emergency where every second matters. Recognizing the warning signs early and calling 911 immediately can save a life.

👉 Common signs of a heart attack include:

🔴 Chest Discomfort: Pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the center of the chest that may come and go
🔴 Upper Body Pain: Discomfort in one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
🔴 Shortness of Breath: With or without chest discomfort
🔴 Other Signs: Cold sweat, nausea, lightheadedness, or sudden fatigue

⚠️ Important: Symptoms can vary—especially in women. Not all heart attacks look the same.

🚑 What should you do?
• Call 911 immediately—don’t wait or try to “tough it out”
• Sit or lie down and try to stay calm
• If advised by a dispatcher, you may be instructed to take aspirin
• Be ready to provide medical history and medications if possible

🚨 What happens when you call 911?
• A dispatcher gathers critical information and sends help right away
• Firefighters/paramedics begin assessment and treatment upon arrival
• Crews can perform advanced care and notify the hospital early
• You’ll be transported quickly for definitive treatment

💡 Why it matters: Fast action can limit heart damage and save your life.

If you think it might be a heart attack—don’t wait. Call 911.
