This dresser turned out absolutely different than I had originally planned! As a creator, sometimes you have to just accept it and go in a different direction when things aren’t going well…

But isn’t that LIFE too? How many times in our own lives do things turn out differently than we planned? More than I like to count but the biggest unplanned thing in my life is definitely losing Alex and becoming a widow. But the Lord can (and I believe He will) redeem our circumstance and although it may not look like I ever thought, it’s still going to be beautiful!

Have you ever had someone compare their grief to a piece of furniture?! Yeah, probably not 🙃 As I was looking back in my past content, it struck me that this piece is so much like my grief journey.

Before I lost Alex, I always thought grief was linear…but soon came to realize that it’s not. It’s completely scattered and often, I am hit out of nowhere and I just can’t help but cry. Grieve a life that once was. Grieve my best friend and love. Grieve that my children are missing out on the best dad.

But just as surprised as I was about the layers of grief and how it never truly goes away…I was also surprised that I can hold joy again. Both joy and grief can exist in the same moment. Life can still be good.

And I realized…how lucky am I that I got to love someone so deeply—that it’s a privilege to grieve Alex for the rest of my life.

So while so days are still hard, I’m finding joy again through DIY and creating. I know God is still good and He still has good plans for us!

Hi 👋!
I’ve had so many new faces around here that I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself again!!

I’m Alissa (pronounced Aleeesa😇) and I’m the face behind Home Grove! I’m a homeschooling mama of 4 who has always loved thrifting, crafting, and bringing new life to ugly things!

Where does the name Home Grove come from? Well, all four of our kids are named after trees 🌳 and a small grouping of trees is called a Grove! Since I’m raising them at “home” the name Home Grove was born 😍

We are going through a crazy stage of life right now...my husband is leaving his job in a month to pursue his own business in wood working and I’m going to be taking a break from refinishing—trying to do it all, and have my husband home much less right now has been a bit hard!

The Lord is leading me into a season of rest, but I’ll still be here showing you a few things! I’ve got some small projects (and a few big ones) in my own home that I’m excited to finally be able to do.

First up is the kid’s bathroom! Stay tuned 🥰

This Riverside set has gone through quite the transformation! The textured fronts with new framing completes this beautiful greige! It’s warm and is a beautiful chameleon color depending on the lighting.

New hardware, drawer liner, and furniture salve to make these two pieces smell amazing complete the final look!

The dresser actually has 8 drawers, with two felt lined at the top. The rest of the drawers are very spacious and glide perfectly as all the glides and guides were replaced.
