Here at DAO we often harp on changing your oil every 3k miles, and checking it every 1500 because these new Jeep motors are ticking (no pun intended) time bombs.
These motors just aren’t built like they used to be.
Jeep says it’s fine to go 7500-10k between oil changes.
Jeep says it’s normal for them to consume a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles…Do that math for how much ‘normal’ oil consumption can be present in 10k miles….thats right kids, Jeep claims it’s within factory spec to consume 5 quarts or more of oil in 10k miles…
This customer had 6000 miles on their oil. 3000 over our recommendation, but still 1500-4000 under Jeeps recommendation..
This particular Jeep is a JL with the 2.0, and 60k miles on it, and it has zero leaks. It just consumes oil, and they had no idea. Can you imagine how this would look had they gone the full 10,000 miles?
I don’t care how new it is, or how many miles it has on it, or whether or not you see oil leaks…..CHECK YOUR OIL EVERY 1500 MILES. Your motor may depend on it.
