Hello Friends,

After 35 years in the fire service, the time has come to begin the next chapter. My final day with the Charlotte Fire Department will be May 29, 2026.

Many of you are familiar with our former training company, Technical Rescue Consultants (TRC). TRC was built on expert instruction and, above all, a commitment to integrity and customer support. While we ultimately closed TRC due in part to the challenges brought on by COVID, the decision also allowed me to fully focus on my responsibilities with Charlotte Fire.

Following retirement—and after a much-needed break—we will launch Operational Edge. Our focus will include product and business innovation, sales team support, customer onboarding, end-user product education, and field and wear-trial management. Building strong business-to-business and business-to-consumer connections was one of the most rewarding aspects of TRC, and we look forward to continuing that work under Operational Edge.

On the leadership and business side, our roadmap includes Chief Officer and Company Officer development seminars that address essential leadership competencies, as well as strategies for effectively managing the business of emergency services. In an era of rising costs, there is an increasing need for cost-saving strategies that do not compromise service delivery or morale. I believe our team is uniquely positioned to provide meaningful value in this area.

I am grateful for the relationships built over the past three and a half decades and look forward to what lies ahead!

Taken at our first TRC class. We were doing a rope access job for a construction company that was replacing a water main that ran up the side of a mountain. Pretty sure it was Lookout Mountain in TN…it’s been a while with 100’s of classes in between.
