After multiple sets of tube, Eliza had a diagnosis of a cholesteatoma in her left ear which is a destructive growth of skin (cyst) that encompasses the bones of the ear and can damage the nerve. te to create sound. Eliza in second grade began wearing hearing aids to increase sound. After realizing that insurance did not pay for hearing equipment in many states, Illinois being one of them, Eliza teamed up with Sarah Spain from ESPN to form Hear The Cheers in 2012 that raises funds to purchase hearing equipment for young athletes. Hearing Aids cost $3,000 to 5,000 a year. To date, Hear The Cheers has raised over $300,000 and served over 108 children. Hear The Cheers partners with The Chicago Hearing Society to provide audiology services to children. CHS processes applications for children, provides audiology services and follow up resources. The goal is to continue to serve children up to age 18 with an opportunity to Hear the Cheers.
