Odin. The Allfather.
The story of Odin's eye is a powerful commentary on the cost of wisdom.
Many of our most important lessons are learned through sacrifice of some kind. Either painful mistakes, or diligent study. All required some form of sacrifice.
Mighty Odin was no different. Always seeking more knowledge and wisdom, the Allfather sought out the Well of Urd amongst the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil. However the Mimir, the guardian of the well, demanded a great sacrifice before allowing Odin to drink. In exchange for this Odin gouged his own eye out and offered it in exchange.
That is the story of how Odin lost his eye in exchange for something far more valuable. Wisdom.
While it may not be feasible for us to sacrifice an eye for knowledge, we can still take something from this lesson. Learning is a cycle. There is always more knowledge to gain. The moment you stop believing you need to learn anything else is the moment you need to begin doing just that. Do not be complacent in your belief that there is nothing more to learn. Thus the circular appearance of the Odins Eye pendants represents not only the self-sacrifice to gain knowledge, but the cyclical nature of living and learning.
On a related theme Norse mythology and many other beliefs frequently reference the cyclical nature of life and death through circular designs and tales. Tales and designs such as Jormungandr the world serpent.
Never stop learning!
Strike True!
