Story time 👀
Everyone I’ve ever helped or sold parts to can, in one way or another, owe it to this car right here.
This is the car that started everything for me.
Almost 11 years ago, I was a junior in high school looking for a different car. Around that same time, I switched schools to the larger town down the road. Before this car, I honestly didn’t even know what a 3/S was. As much as I’d love to say I had been obsessed with these cars since I was a kid, that simply isn’t true.
I really wanted an Eclipse, but I couldn’t find one that wasn’t completely ragged out. I knew I wanted a Mitsubishi; I just didn’t know about the 3000GT/Stealth platform yet.
After switching schools, I joined the track team. At practice one day, I noticed that one of my coaches had this exact 1992 Dodge Stealth RT/TT. I quickly fell in love with it and decided I had to have one of my own.
That led to the purchase of the red 1999 3000gt that I still own to this day.
Not long after I bought mine, this Stealth broke down and was parked, where it would remain until I eventually bought it from my old track coach. At the time, I knew very little about cars. It took me quite a while, but I eventually got it fixed and running perfectly again.
Unfortunately, as much as I loved the car and didn’t want to let it go, I desperately needed a truck. I had to do what I had to do, and I traded the Stealth away.
The guy I traded it to signed the title but never put it into his name before selling it to someone else. From there, it bounced around between a few different owners and eventually ended up in Kansas City, Missouri, blown up and being parted out.
I actually tracked the car down and tried to buy it back, but the owner and I couldn’t come to an agreement on a price. Eventually, he told me he had scrapped it.
That was about five years ago.
At that point, I genuinely thought I would never see this car again.
For years, I regretted selling it because without this car, I wouldn’t have any of what I have today. Without this car, my business probably wouldn’t even exist.
I honestly don’t know where I would be in life if it weren’t for my unhealthy obsession with these cars. They’ve given me a business, a community that I genuinely enjoy being a part of, and, most importantly, relationships with some of the best people I’ve ever had the pleasure of selling parts to-many of whom have become good friends along the way.
And then, somehow, this car found its way back to me.
The funny part is, I didn’t even realize this was my old car when I bought it.
It was a 2-for-1 deal, and we were primarily there for the other car. I didn’t even look at the Stealth very closely when we first got there.
Then I started looking at it.
And very quickly, I realized exactly what I was looking at.
It was my old car.
The same car I had regretted selling for years.
The same car I was told had been scrapped five years ago.
And somehow, completely by accident, it had fallen right back into my lap.
I don’t know what the future holds for this car yet, but after everything this particular Stealth has meant to me, there’s no way I could let it disappear again.
Below are pictures showing the car through its journey—how it looked when I first got it, how it looked when I eventually let it go, and how it looks now that I’ve finally gotten it back.
Almost 11 years later, it’s pretty damn cool to see the same car come full circle.
Some cars are just parts cars.
Some cars are a piece of your history.
And this one is a pretty damn big piece of mine.
