⚔ Speed or force—which does your application need?
Choosing a linear actuator isn’t just about going faster. Higher speed generally means lower force, so finding the right balance is key.
From robotics and automation to home projects, learn what factors to consider before choosing your actuator. šŸ”§

Need a linear actuator with a different stroke, force, or voltage for your project? šŸ”§

At Progressive Automations, we can customize eligible actuator models to help meet your application’s requirements.

Here are some options you can explore:
āš™ļø Force — Match your load requirements while considering the balance between force and travel speed.
ā†”ļø Stroke — Get the travel distance your mechanism needs when standard lengths don’t fit.
⚔ Voltage — Explore configurations that work with your existing power system.
šŸ“ Position feedback — Add Hall effect sensors or potentiometers to eligible models for position monitoring or synchronization with compatible controls.

Depending on the model, cable lengths, connectors, and mounting details can also be customized.

Not sure where to start? Share your required load, travel distance, available space, power supply voltage, and control needs with our engineering team. We’ll help assess the options for your project.

What if you could steer a sailboat with a joystick? ⛵

For sailors with limited hand strength, adapted controls can make it possible to enjoy a day on the water—or compete in a race.

The Adaptive Sailing Association of British Columbia (ASABC) makes this possible with adapted boats. Our linear actuator is one part of the system, moving the rudder in response to the sailor’s joystick controls.

We’re proud to support their work in making sailing more accessible, for both the joy of sailing and the thrill of competition.

Watch the video to see how it works.

The freedom to steer your own boat. The excitement of joining a race. ⛵

Congratulations to the Adaptive Sailing Association of British Columbia (ASABC), Disability Foundation, and all the sailors and volunteers who brought Mobility Cup 2026 to life—35 years after the regatta first began in Vancouver!

We’re proud to support ASABC with linear actuators that move a boat’s rudder using joystick controls, helping sailors with limited hand strength steer and maneuver more independently.

Here’s to more days on the water, shared experiences, and opportunities to compete. šŸ’™

Every year, we’re proud to recognize students who bring forward great ideas with the potential to make a real-world impact. This year, we selected three scholarship winners whose projects stood out for their creativity, purpose, and vision.

But this year, we wanted to take it one step further. We asked each winner to share a little more about their engineering journey — what inspired them, the experiences that shaped their ideas, and what they hope to achieve through engineering.

Meet Liam, Vince, and Saira and discover the stories, experiences, and ideas behind their engineering journeys. šŸ‘‡
