There are some jobs that remind you why you fell in love with welding in the first place. 🇺🇸✈️

Today, First Place Fabrication had the absolute honor of repairing an original exhaust component from an 80-year-old B-29 Superfortress bomber right here in Savannah, Georgia. This exhaust was manufactured from Inconel 625 — a high-temperature nickel alloy designed to survive some of the harshest operating conditions imaginable. Even after decades of service, history, heat cycles, vibration, and multiple past repairs, this piece is still flying. That alone is incredible.

The aircraft’s crew discovered several cracks during their pre-flight inspection before this weekend’s flights at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Wanting to preserve the aircraft’s authenticity and original components, they entrusted First Place Fabrication with making the repairs needed to safely return this historic warbird to the skies.

As a welder and fabricator, opportunities like this are rare. Working on modern equipment is one thing — but putting your hands on a piece of living World War II history that helped shape aviation forever is something entirely different. Every weld carried weight knowing this airplane represents the bravery, sacrifice, engineering, and resilience of an entire generation.

Seeing this legendary B-29 preparing to fly again after completing these repairs is something I won’t forget anytime soon.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and trust placed in us to help preserve a piece of American aviation history.

Right now, we’re in the middle of building this custom 8-ft tall A-frame assembly — precision-cut, welded, and made to last. This is just the beginning stage of a much bigger project, and we can’t wait to show you the finished product.

Strong fences mean strong security — here’s how we restored the Lowe’s Distribution Warehouse perimeter in Rincon, GA today.

First Place Fabrication was called out to the Lowe’s Distribution Warehouse in Rincon, Georgia for a repair on a damaged chain link fence post topped with barbed wire. This post is part of the facility’s perimeter security, so getting it back in service quickly was critical.

We arrived on-site equipped to handle the repair without disrupting warehouse operations. We cut out the damaged section, realigned the framework, and fully welded the post for maximum strength and durability.
