st century, it is clear that the economic, social, and technological goals of our nation can only be met by drawing from the broadest possible pool of people—women and men alike-- with the highest potential for success in scientific and engineering pursuits. The goal of the Women in Engineering (WIE) Program is to increase female enrollments in engineering majors, and once engaged, to ensure the highest rate of retention. The financial support and commitment of our faculty, administration, alumni, and corporate friends is critical to our success and we are extremely grateful for their generous and sustained engagement.

The WIE Corporate Open House is this coming Monday, September 12th, from 5:00-7:00pm in the Exhibition hall! The Corporate Open House is a mini-career fair where representatives from Women in Engineering’s most generous corporate sponsors are present to recruit for co-op, internship and entry-level positions. All female engineering undergraduate and graduate students with a 3.0+ are invited to the event!

Hi, my name is Sophie Mayhew, and I am a second-year industrial engineering major! I am currently on my second rotation as a Project Controls Specialist co-op at Georgia Transmission Corporation. In this position, I help project managers to create project budgets and schedules for approximately 100 transmission line and substation projects. Additionally, I get to use skills I learned at Tech to compile data for department-specific reports and to assist in managing project schedules. Based on the experiences I have had with this co-op position I could see my dream job encompassing both project management and data analytics. Outside of school, I am a 2nd year ambassador for the Connect First Year Leadership Organization, a member of Alpha Chi Omega, a Gold Scholar Ambassador, and an ISYE Ambassador!

Caroline Dunning is a Faculty Honors student majoring in electrical engineering at Georgia Tech. Her professional experience includes work with the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Northrop Grumman, and Georgia Tech’s Space Systems Design Lab. Her work at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum involves presenting topics ranging from rocket boosters to how planes fly. Through her internship with Northrop Grumman, she transitioned from explaining STEM concepts to implementing them on cutting edge satellites. During her internship, Caroline was entrusted with the task of conducting a trade study between two electrical power subsystems for a defense satellite. As part of her undergraduate research, she is designing a printed circuit board for a satellite scheduled to launch into space this spring. Caroline is a student in the Georgia Tech Honors Program and is on the Honors Program intramural soccer team. She is an initiate of Eta Kappa Nu, an electrical engineering honor society. Caroline has held several leadership positions in the Society of Women Engineers: the Industry Connections Chair, webmaster, and Tea with the Dean Chair. Tea With the Dean of engineering is GT-SWE’s largest recruitment event each year and is held jointly with GT’s Women in Engineering program. Caroline is passionate about encouraging and supporting her female colleagues in the engineering programs at Georgia Tech!
