This is an example of why routine maintenance is important and why overgreasing for years without performing routine maintenance in a farmall rear-end can be a bad thing.

This is why it pays to check everything out before assembly.

This guy makes the shop seem huge compared to what's been in lately. With all that needs attention it's definitely a case of big things come in little packages.

Nice to have a project that goes quickly compared to others that tend to show up.

This has been something I've been running into a lot especially this last week or so. I realize people don't want their drain plug to fall out, but you definitely can over tighten them. Repeatedly doing so will cause problems down the road. If you need to use a long handled ½" drive ratchet (over 2 feet long) and exert a lot of force to remove the drain plug. It's being installed way too tight. Two of these photos show a drain plug with a crush gasket that hasn't been replaced in sometime. These are supposed to be changed every oil change. Eventually they won't seal no matter how tight you crank down your drain plug. You won't know it until your brand new motor oil is leaking all the ground. I've been seeing this fairly commonly lately and thought I would share this knowledge with everyone making life easier for everyone and possibly less expensive for yourself down the road.

Sometimes you get a carburetor that really makes you go above and beyond your typical rebuild. Use good clean fuel and keep it fresh! If it's going to sit for some time without a fuel stabilizer definitely drain the carburetor or turn off your fuel and run the motor until it quits, leaving the carburetor empty. It will definitely help prevent it from looking like this.
