It is increasingly difficult today to provide for one's family. Cost of living has increased and wages have not kept up. For those in W-2 employment, it can feel especially tough.
This is the pressure I felt in 2020. Emily and I wanted 2 things:
- more children, and
- her at home as a full time mom and homemaker.
This was a problem because I was producing only about half of our income.
I was working in a non-profit (where we were told "Your compensation is the work itself" lol). So we started businesses on the side. Woodworking, photography, and soap companies. None of them worked long term.
One day we needed grass after our home's septic system was replaced. I found hydroseeding. After some research we decided to pull the trigger. I now had a 1990 f250 and a small 100 gallon hydroseeder. I had never hydroseeded before, but the pressure was on.
I got to work. Emily designed me a basic website. I spent hours cold emailing landscapers in the area. Within a couple of weeks, I had my first paying job. Things escalated quickly.
20k the first year. (woah, this is helpful for the budget)
40k the second. (hokey smokes, this could actually work!)
170k the third. (I was able to quit my job and hydroseed full time.)
In early 2024 we noticed a need for quality, jet agitated hydroseeders. Months later HydroHog Seeders was born.
