BMW, as before, believes that the demand for station wagons is sufficient, so the company is preparing the development of the BMW 5 Series Touring 2024. The new BMW long-roof car, codenamed G61, will be presented in early 2024, and will go on sale later the same year The Munich-based automaker predicts that Europe will be the main market for the model, but adds that the spacious family car will also be sold in Japan and Taiwan.
BMW has released a new profile image of the car, which confirms that the taillight pattern will resemble that of the BMW 3 Series Touring. BMW intends to sell the new large wagon with the same powertrains as the 5 Series sedan (G60), so buyers will be offered a variety of petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in electric options.
The flagship M5 will get the M division's new S68 8-cylinder engine. It's a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine that will work in conjunction with an electric motor on the same principle as the XM transmission.
As all versions of the 5 Series Touring will be built on the CLAR platform, there will be few design changes between the diesel and electrified models. These cars will look almost identical inside and out, except for the M5, which will have wider fenders, quad exhaust pipes and other details.
