Day 1 – Workshop: MMC Fundamentals & Hardware Assembly
📅 Monday, November 17, 2025

Yesterday marked the kickoff of our workshop dedicated to Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC) and hardware assembly!

The morning began with an engaging presentation on the fundamentals of MMCs, followed by a demonstration of the MMC prototype. After a well-deserved coffee break, participants were divided into groups to begin their first PCB assembly session for the submodules.

After lunch, it was time for hands-on practice! The second session continued with the assembly work, followed by another short break, and the day concluded with submodule testing.

It was a productive day filled with learning, technical exchanges, and great teamwork. Thank you to all participants for your commitment and enthusiasm!

💻 Arduino-Based Buck Converter Testing
Thursday, September 5, 2024, was dedicated to programming and testing the buck converter built the previous day. Participants configured the Arduino, implemented input/output signal control, and used oscilloscopes to visualize converter performance. They also measured efficiency and verified output voltage regulation under different conditions. The day concluded with EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) measurements, helping participants link theory to real-world converter behavior.

⚙️ Lecture on DC/DC Converters & EMC Characterization
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, participants took part in an engaging workshop on DC/DC converters and EMC characterization, led by Dr. Oumesad Hajji and Dr. Bassem Zitouna. During this session, they learned how to solder and assemble the PCB of a buck converter controllable via Arduino. Practical exercises included testing the device with a frequency generator, analyzing its electrical response, and understanding its conversion efficiency. The workshop ended with group presentations highlighting experimental results and shared insights on converter design.

🔋 Hands-on Workshop on Battery Systems
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, participants immersed themselves in a hands-on workshop dedicated to battery technologies, led by Dr. Sabeur Jemmali and Dr. Meriem Ben Lazreg. Through practical experiments, they explored the electrical behavior of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, performing charge and discharge tests and examining voltage–current characteristics under real operating conditions. The session also included PV-powered battery charging setups, allowing teams to analyze the impact of solar integration on energy storage performance. The day concluded with collaborative discussions and presentations of measurement results, highlighting both technical understanding and teamwork.

Hands-on Session on Photovoltaic Energy Systems 🌞
On Monday, September 2, 2024, participants took part in the first hands-on workshop dedicated to photovoltaic systems. Working in small teams, they assembled and tested PV modules to understand their electrical performance. The session focused on measuring open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current, studying power variations under different load conditions, and examining how orientation and tilt angles affect solar energy generation. The workshop concluded with team presentations of the recorded measurements and analysis results.
