QALWO is an international non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit. The name QALWO is a Somali word loosely denoting: empower, build, capacity development. Its programs cover sustainable development, poverty eradication, food security, nutrition, food aid, water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, education, health services (both human and livestock), shelter, protection, human rights, and g
ood governance. QALWO is dedicated towards empowering the youth in urban and rural settings as a core function since the very first day of its inception. The organization has a donor liaison office in London, and a Mogadishu based headquarters. THE PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of QALWO Organization is a humanist and community centered philosophy of development. It was founded on a set of beliefs about the basic problems of African communities and their inherit power to solve those problems. In response to the Humanitarian crises in Somalia which was caused by the prolonged ethnic conflicts and regional draughts. The living status of the society in Somalia in general reached below the poverty margin, therefore to undertake socio-economic transformation a group of multi disciplinary whose plan sounded quite feasible on 5th April 2011. A board of directors who plausibly decided to intervene the humanitarian crises in Somalia was formed. A base was established in Mogadishu focusing on social Affairs (Education, Health/HIV prevention, Environment, Poverty, Human Rights, Infrastructure and Culture). QALWO went through different stages, it was firstly conceptual, the concept was transformed into verbal, and the written statement was transferred to actualization by documenting the constitution and operational Guidelines and code of conduct relevant to the international standard. WHAT IS THE LONG RANGE ACTION OF QALWO? The Proposed long term is articulated to the mission, vision and strategy of QALWO mainly improving the fragile eco-systems, and reforestation program, Building sense of Ownership to reduce wildlife destruction, take part in the global efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS and Creation of awareness of the modes of transmission, conflict prevention through good governance, Rehabilitation of Government infrastructure and revival education as well as enhancing human right with focus on gender empowerment. WHAT ARE THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE? QALWO has physical and non physical resource. A part from the nursery, premises for offices, and office equipment, it has qualified Engineer, Agronomist, Administrators, Skilled professionals and accountants. WHAT’S THE DESIRED INTERVENTION OF QALWO? The Desired urgent intervention is enhancing livestock, Rehabilitation of Infrastructure and agricultural programs to improve the livelihood situation in Africa in particular and Somalia in general. WHAT ARE THE GUIDING PRINCIPLES? Our guiding principles are mainly serving the poor with mechanism to achieve the above mentioned objectives. The target will be conflict prevention and sustainable development, preservation of the fragile ecosystem and wildlife protection, civil protection and human rights advocacy, combat with poverty and HIV/AIDS educational system revival in the remote areas. Coping with the continent’s established rules, customs, and enacting the best practice based on good governance, democratic internal life and alliance building with local and international agencies.
