During my recent visit to Silicon Valley from 18-22 July , I explored the future of ๐œ๐ข๐ซ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ ๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ฐ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ from the perspective of CEO of Vulcan BioEnergy.

During the trip, I visited the Enterprise Singapore San Francisco Overseas Centre, the founder of B Current Impact Investment, Startup Island Taiwan - Silicon Valley Hub, the founder of Good Morning Silicon Valley Association (GMSV), and the Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco.

Silicon Valley has long been associated with semiconductors, the internet, and now AI. Yet another important transformation is taking shape:

Leading institutions across the Bay Area, including Stanford, UC Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, have been advancing research in circular economy, renewable energy, bioenergy, circular bioeconomy, and carbon-negative technologies. The conversation is increasingly moving beyond simply reducing waste toward transforming biomass residues and underutilized resources into energy, materials, and new economic value.

This direction closely aligns with what we are building at Vulcan BioEnergy.

Our distributed model aims to process agricultural residues close to where they are generated, converting them into renewable energy, biochar, and other valuable products.

For me, a truly scalable circular economy must complete the journey:

Only when environmental benefits also create economic value can the circular economy move from a sustainability concept to a scalable industry.

This visit also reinforced how different regions can contribute complementary strengths:

Connecting these strengths could create a powerful model for the next stage of Asiaโ€™s circular bioeconomy.

Across ASEAN, large volumes of agricultural biomass are generated every day. Instead of treating this biomass as waste to be disposed of, Vulcan BioEnergyโ€™s patented PMET + GGAC technology provides another way forward.

Our integrated system converts biomass residues into renewable electricity and valuable bio-based products, including biochar and bio-liquid.

Here is how it works:
1โƒฃ Agricultural residues, such as cashew husks, are fed into the PMET system.
2๏ธโƒฃ PMET converts the biomass into biogas, biochar and bio-liquid. The renewable gas is then channelled to the GGAC system to generate electricity.
3๏ธโƒฃ Part of the electricity generated helps power the system, supporting self-sufficient operations.

Through our decentralised Factory-in-Factory model, the system can be installed closer to where agricultural residues are generated, reducing the need to transport bulky biomass over long distances, and lower secondary emissions produced from transportation.

Its modular design also allows businesses to expand processing capacity as their biomass supply grows.

Take a look to see how our PMET + GGAC system works to benefit your business and surrounding local communities.

Meet Dr Michael FU, CEO of Vulcan BioEnergy.

Nearly a decade ago, Dr Fu began a journey to explore how technology and business could help address some of the challenges facing agriculture, natural resources and our climate.

That journey led him to found the International Association for Agricultural Sustainability (IAAS), bringing together people and ideas across research, business and government, and eventually to Vulcan BioEnergy.

Today, through Vulcanโ€™s patented PMET + GGAC climate technology, that belief is being put into action: transforming agricultural waste into clean energy and valuable resources for businesses and communities.

The Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) is a non-profit and non-government association bringing companies across the sustainable-energy sector to exchange knowledge, discuss industry developments and build stronger connections.

As one of our first engagements as a new member, our team attended the recent SEAS Carbon Working Group meeting.

During the session, the Carbon Working Group Chairman Vinod Kesava called for members to turn industry discussions into tangible projects that can generate high-integrity carbon credits, create value for SEAS members and support Singapore in meeting its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

Our CEO, Dr Michael FU, was also invited to introduce Vulcan BioEnergy and share how our patented PMET + GGAC system transforms biomass residues into renewable energy and useful bio-based products.

It was a valuable opportunity to learn and connect with members of Singaporeโ€™s sustainable-energy community including Kes Shotam and Vinod Kesava from Climate Resources Exchange, and Luke Quek from Invest and Trade Western Australia.

We would also like to thank SEAS Executive Director, Kavita Gandhi, for the warm welcome.

We look forward to staying connected, learning from industry conversations and collaborating with members of the SEAS community.

This National Day, we celebrate a nation that has never allowed its size or limitations deter it from pursuing excellence.

For 61 years, Singapore has moved forward with resilience, purpose and an enduring belief that tomorrow can always be better than today. This spirit of progress continues to shape not only our nationโ€™s future, but also Singaporeโ€™s growing leadership in the global green economy.

Through its Green Economy Agreement with Australia, 11 Article 6 Implementation Agreements and 20 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with more than 20 countries, Singapore is building meaningful partnerships that support credible carbon markets, sustainable investment and collective climate action.

Singapore is also helping to advance the regionโ€™s renewable-energy future through the draft Cross-Border Renewable Energy Certificate Framework for Southeast Asia. By laying the groundwork for more transparent and credible renewable-energy trading across the region, this work can help foster greater trust, momentum and collaboration in the transition to a low-carbon future.

At Vulcan BioEnergy, we are inspired by Singaporeโ€™s determination to progress and advance responsible bioenergy solutions, support decarbonisation efforts and continuously seek better ways to contribute to a cleaner, more resilient and more sustainable Singapore.

Our journey is one of shared progress. We hope to play our part in shaping the next chapter of Singaporeโ€™s green future by working, learning and doing better together.

Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond! ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ
