EP 3. 1st & 2nd Generation Aftermarket Steel Prismatic 7.2V NiMH Hybrid Battery Casing in Different colors
Technically speaking, the first generation of Steel Prismatic hybrid batteries wasn't available on the market when it was developed in 2018. Instead, the initial batch was sent out from the factory for road testing. We equipped the first (or possibly second) set of 28-piece, 7.2V batteries into a Singapore-registered Toyota Prius. Similarly, the first set of 9.6V batteries was installed in a Singapore-registered Lexus RX400h. I can confidently confirm this, as the second serial-numbered battery, which was found defective, is still kept in my battery testing lab. Unlike the current models, which have serial numbers engraved directly onto the battery, this first batch had labels affixed instead. However, let's turn our focus to the first and second generations of these batteries that were actually released to the market.

Photo 1: The first generation of Steel Prismatic 7.2V NiMH batteries began selling in the market in 2019. As shown, the gray casing lacks a hole for the temperature sensor to be inserted. During installation, the car's original temperature sensor was secured to the casing with a cable tie. We closely monitored the battery's performance during driving and reported back to the factory. Our feedback highlighted a concern: if the temperature sensor is obstructed by the plastic casing, the Battery Management System (BMS) might not accurately detect the battery's temperature, potentially leading to battery damage due to overheating. During this period, no other color casing was produced, as other hybrid battery exporters and online marketing companies were still focused on the lower-cost cylindrical battery.

Starting from this generation, around 2021, cylindrical batteries began to encounter issues in warm climates. As a result, several battery exporters and online marketing companies gradually transitioned from cylindrical to steel prismatic batteries due to the high number of warranty claims.
We are the official sole distributor for the Singapore and Malaysia markets, but unfortunately, some batteries were still imported into Malaysia through parallel imports. I believe some local workshops imported and sold these batteries in the Malaysian market and are now facing warranty claim issues with exporters based in China.
