🔥 Is Your Fire Suppression System a False Sense of Security?

We often see a dangerous trend: the installation of Fire Suppression Systems (Clean Agent like FM200, Novec, etc.) where corners are cut, putting millions in assets and lives at risk. If your system isn't installed strictly as per NFPA 2001, your investment might be completely ineffective when a fire breaks out.

Here are the two biggest mistakes we observe locally that violate NFPA standards:

🚫 1. The Wrong Type of Fittings (A Recipe for Disaster)
A huge number of contractors use substandard or incorrect fittings to save costs. This is a direct violation of NFPA 2001.

· The Violation: Using Class 150 or cast iron fittings, which are prohibited .
· The NFPA Requirement:
· For pipes 3-inch and smaller: You must use Class 300/400 malleable (ductile) iron or Forged Steel.
· For pipes larger than 3-inch: Forged steel fittings are mandatory.
· Using the wrong fitting risks a catastrophic burst when the system pressurizes, meaning the agent never reaches the fire.

🚫 2. Ignoring "Enclosure Integrity" (The Agent Leaks Out!)
You can have the best cylinders and piping, but if the room isn't sealed, the gas will leak out before it can extinguish the fire.

· The Violation: Not conducting a proper Door Fan Test or sealing un-closable openings.
· The Requirement: NFPA 2001 requires the enclosure to hold the agent concentration for a specific time (usually 10 minutes) to soak the fire and prevent re-ignition. If you have open louvers, unsealed cable trays, or automatic dampers that don't close, the gas simply disappears. You are paying to air-condition the atmosphere!

⚠️ The Result of Ignoring NFPA Guidelines:
If you neglect these rules, you aren't just violating the code; you are ensuring that your expensive system will fail when needed most . Don't let unauthorized parts or poor workmanship void your safety .
