“Why does my construction cost keep increasing…
even before we start building?”

If you’ve ever asked this, you’re not alone.

Many homeowners, contractors and developers jump into construction with incomplete plans, inaccurate estimates, or worse,
no proper structural design at all.

And that’s where costly mistakes begin.

One small miscalculation in quantities.
One overlooked structural detail.

That’s all it takes to turn your “budget-friendly build” into a financial headache.

Because in construction, errors don’t stay on paper,
they show up in your expenses.

At IZAR Construction and Engineering Services, we help you build smarter from the start:

✔️ Structural Design & Analysis - safe, efficient, and code-compliant
✔️ Accurate Quantity Takeoffs - no more guesswork
✔️ Cost Estimates - plan your budget with confidence
✔️ Sign & Seal of Plans - professional and ready for approval (with free peer-review of existing structural plans)

We don’t just design structures,
we design clarity, safety, and cost-efficiency.

Imagine starting your project knowing:
• your structure is safe
• your costs are controlled
• your plans are professionally prepared

No surprises. No unnecessary expenses.
Just a smooth, well-planned build.

💡 Earthquake scenario check:
If you’re on the 25th floor of a building and suddenly there’s shaking, what’s the first thing you’d do?

Most people would panic, run around, or head straight to the windows (please don’t).

My answer?
👉 Go near the fire exit or even the elevator core.

Why?

Because in tall buildings, those areas are where the structural elements are most heavily reinforced.

The shear walls, columns, beams, and slabs/diaphragms there are designed with the largest stiffness to resist lateral loads like wind and earthquakes. In other words, it’s the part of the building with the strongest backbone.

Of course, rule #1 is always don’t use the elevator during an earthquake.

But positioning yourself near those structural cores can give you extra protection if immediate evacuation isn’t possible.

Take it from a structural engineer who thinks about these things a lot. 🏗️✨

Stay safe everyone!

Earthquake Cracks: Should We Be Worried?

After last night’s strong earthquake in Visayas, particularly in Cebu and Leyte, I saw a lot of posts and videos showing cracks on buildings. Understandably, people get scared when they see these, but here’s something important to know:

👉 Cracks during an earthquake are normal. What really matters is where those cracks are.

Now, there are two main elements that make up a building:

One, the structural elements which are the “bones” of the building. These include columns, beams, slabs, shear walls, load-bearing walls, and even the foundations. Cracks here are serious, and you should call a practicing structural engineer immediately to assess the severity of the damage.

Two, the non-structural elements which are the “skin” of the building. These include CHB infill walls, glass walls/windows, ceilings, claddings, partitions, tiles, and other finishes. Cracks here can look alarming, but they don’t usually affect the overall safety of the structure.

So the next time you see cracks after an earthquake, remember: it’s not just the presence of cracks that matters. What matters is knowing whether they’re on the bones (structural) or the skin (non-structural).

Let’s stay informed and calm, because panic doesn’t keep us safe, but the right knowledge does.

Anyway, just sharing my professional perspective.
