PRESS RELEASE !

This year, Autoparts PartsWorld, Timaru marked a huge milestone and is celebrating 100 years in business, making us the possibly the oldest dismantling yard in Australasia. Since 1924 Autoparts has been supplying new and used parts for all makes of vehicles and we would like to acknowledge all of our customers, as well as the staff (past and present) for making this achievement possible.

A lot has changed with the automotive industry over the last Century, with even more significant changes happening in the last few years. Several external forces, such as the way new vehicles are manufactured and pressure from insurance companies, have seen a change to the way we have had to operate when selling used parts.

While we are 100% up to the challenge, to ensure our organisation's viability for the future, over the last two years we started reducing our reliance to the amount of used items we sold, focusing more on directly importing, wholesaling, and selling new parts, either genuine new or quality, personally selected aftermarket items.

During this restructuring process we realised our current premises of almost 10,000m2 no longer suited its purpose, and listed the land and building at 16 Shaw Street, Redruth with a real estate agent. This week we accepted an offer and are now beginning the huge task of clearing the site, making it ready for its new owners.
We will be shifting some stock to a new location and continue to operate as an online business only.

Over the next two weeks will be selling ALL of our used stock at heavily reduced prices. If you require any used parts at bargain prices contact us ASAP!

We don’t want to move it, so it all has to go!

This year "Auto Parts" turns 100 years old !!!

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our customers, (past and present) for the support and trust that have kept us going for 100 years. Also, a huge thanks to the many staff members that have passed through the doors over the years.
...A brief history.
"The Timaru Wrecking Company" was started by Mr. E. D. Moore in 1930 at a garage in Turnbull Street, before relocating a few years later to a larger premises in Sophia Street. A fire destroyed the building and in 1934 the business was relocated across the road to 53 Sophia Street.

in 1935 "Auto Parts Limited" purchased shares and the business began trading as "Auto Parts Timaru Limited" with Mr. Moore staying on as the Managing director.

On the 20th of April 1970, the business was shifted to its current location at 16 Shaw Street, Redruth, Timaru. That same week, Mr. Moore retired (aged 63) and Mr. Graeme Underwood took over as the Managing Director and owner.

Mr. David Brown started working at Auto Parts in 1973, and eventually purchased the shares owned by Auto Parts Chch.

The company was also one of the first to sign up to the “Satellite Parts Network” an early computer based messaging system linked to dismantlers around NZ for locating parts. This network would form the foundations and business relationships that set up the formation of the "PartsWorld" organisation. In 1988 Auto Parts Timaru joined the newly formed Co-operative with 12 other members and began trading as Autoparts PartsWorld.

When Mr. Underwood retired in 1993, the Brown family purchased the remaining shares and continue to operate the business today.
