⚡ Publication Alert — Conference Paper Presented! 🎉
I'm pleased to share that our paper "Random Forest-Assisted Dynamic TRM Estimation for Improved ATC in Renewable-Rich Power Systems" was presented at the 3rd International Conference on Electrical Power Systems and Intelligent Control (EPSIC 2026), Beijing, China, and is now in press for the IEEE conference proceedings. 🧠⚡
💡 Did you know? Random Forest — an ensemble machine learning method — can learn complex, non-linear patterns directly from operational grid data, capturing relationships that traditional analytical models often miss. This makes it powerful for prediction in systems where uncertainty is high and conditions shift constantly.
🔋 This work brings machine learning into power system reliability: we use a Random Forest model to estimate the Dynamic Transmission Reliability Margin (TRM) under load and wind uncertainty, improving how Available Transfer Capability (ATC) is assessed in renewable-rich grids. It's a step toward data-driven, intelligent grid operation — where ML supports safer and more efficient renewable integration.
📊 This is the sixth research output from my PhD journey at Auckland University of Technology — each one is a step closer to my thesis submission. 🚀
🙏 Sincere thanks to my supervisors Prof. Tek Tjing Lie (AUT) and Prof. Md Apel Mahmud (Flinders University) for their continued guidance and support, and to our collaborator Pei Zhang (Tianjin University), who presented the paper.
🔥 The journey continues — more to come!

⚡ Publication Alert! New Article Released!
I'm excited to share that our new research article —
"Probabilistic Modeling of Available Transfer Capability with Dynamic Transmission Reliability Margin for Renewable Energy Export and Integration" — has just been published in Energies (MDPI).
In this paper, we develop a probabilistic framework for assessing Available Transfer Capability (ATC) together with a Dynamic Transmission Reliability Margin (TRM), designed to handle the variability and uncertainty that renewable generation brings to modern power grids. The approach is tested on standard IEEE benchmark systems and validated against a New Zealand grid scenario, supporting safer and more efficient renewable energy export and integration.
If you're interested in power system reliability, renewable integration, and data-driven grid operation, I'd love you to check it out and share your thoughts.
Grateful for the guidance and support of my supervisors, Prof. Tek Tjing Lie (Auckland University of Technology) and Prof. Md Apel Mahmud (Flinders University). 🙏

This paper develops a probabilistic Available Transfer Capability (ATC) framework that quantifies export headroom for renewables across transmission-distribution interfaces under time-varying uncertainty. Static transmission reliability margins can unnecessarily curtail exports. A dynamic transmissi...

*🎉 Publication Alert! New Article Released!*

I’m excited to share that our new research article —
*“Dynamic TRM Estimation with Load–Wind Uncertainty Using Rolling Window Statistical Analysis for Improved ATC”* — has just been published in Energies as part of the *Special Issue on Renewable Energy System Technologies (3rd Edition)*.

In this paper, we present an adaptive rolling-window statistical framework for estimating *Transmission Reliability Margin (TRM)* under *load and wind uncertainty, helping improve the reliability and usability of **Available Transfer Capability (ATC)* in renewable-rich power systems.

👉 If you’re interested in power system reliability, renewable integration, and data-driven grid operation, I’d love you to check it out and share your thoughts.

*Grateful for the guidance and support of my supervisors, Prof. Tek Tjing Lie and Dr. Md Apel Mahmud (Auckland University of Technology).

The rapid integration of renewable energy sources (RES), particularly wind, together with fluctuating demand, has introduced significant uncertainty into power system operation, challenging traditional approaches for estimating Transmission Reliability Margin (TRM) and Available Transfer Capability....

⚡ Grid Reliability in the Age of Uncertainty

Traditionally, power systems were planned around fairly predictable conditions:
– Stable demand growth
– Dispatchable generation
– Fixed transmission limits

But modern power grids are no longer operating in a predictable environment.

Today, system operators must deal with:
• Highly variable wind and solar generation
• Rapidly changing load patterns
• Network congestion and operational stress
• Weather-driven uncertainty

This means that grid reliability is no longer just about having enough capacity.
It is now about managing uncertainty in real time.

As a result, modern power-system planning and operation must move beyond purely deterministic assumptions and adopt uncertainty-aware and probabilistic approaches.

In upcoming posts, I’ll begin breaking down how this shift affects:
– Transmission limits
– Grid security margins
– Renewable integration

What is Power System planning—and why does it still matters in 2026

Power system planning ensures that electricity networks can meet future demand reliably, securely, and economically.

But today’s grids face new challenges:
• Rapid renewable integration
• Uncertain demand patterns
• Transmission bottlenecks

This is why modern planning must move beyond fixed assumptions and embrace uncertainty-aware methods.
