10 years. Hundreds of mills up and down the country. One pattern keeps showing up: the operators making the most money aren't the ones running flat tack. They're the ones wasting the least.

From blade care to log handling, here's what every Kiwi sawmiller should know about protecting yield (and the profit that goes with it). Whether you're milling macrocarpa, pine, eucalypt or anything that's come down on the block.

Watch it through. Save it. Flick it to the team.
Thin kerf doesn't mean small production. It means smarter production.

That's a wrap on Fieldays Hamilton.

Massive thanks to everyone who swung by the stand for a yarn, watched the demos, or took the next step into Wood-Mizer ownership. To the legends who loaded their new mills up and headed home to start cutting, we cannot wait to see what you do with them.

The timber milled at the show this year is heading off to Cambridge High School for their workshop, same as last time. The students put it to good use on their builds, and it's choice to be part of that.

Spent the day with Jimmy and his LT15 Wide.

Fitted his new power feed, ran the mill through its paces, and the fresh engine sounds sweet as. Best part? Jimmy's milling Douglas fir logs that came down right where the mill now sits. The bed's literally set up on top of the stumps. You can't make this stuff up.

Big thanks Jimmy for having us out. That's a setup worth bragging about.

That surface rust on your mill? Don't stress.

Walked out to the shed this winter and spotted a film of orange on the bed rails, clamps or guide arm? You're not the only one. A light bloom of surface rust on bare steel is completely normal through a wet Kiwi winter, even on a mill you've stored properly.

Cosmetic, not structural. Cleans up in minutes.
Scotch-Brite pad + a splash of WD-40 or CRC, wipe along the grain, re-oil after. Mill back to looking sweet.

Your block already has the timber. The LT35 turns it into income.

Hydraulic loading. Hydraulic clamping. Setworks doing the maths. You doing less of the heavy lifting. Real time. Real timber. What you're watching is what you'd be running on your block tomorrow.

If you're still on the fence, this is your sign.

Every log has a story. The mill you choose decides how much ends up as boards, and how much ends up as sawdust.

Bandsaw mills cut thinner, finish cleaner, and pull more useable timber out of every log. More boards from your macrocarpa, more slabs from your eucalypt.

We've broken down the why.
