SOLAR POWER IS ON THE ELECTION AGENDA!
With the NZ general election just weeks away, solar power is getting some serious attention from our political parties.
Several parties have announced plans to make solar and battery storage more accessible for Kiwi households.
Here’s a quick look at what’s being proposed:
National – Low-interest loans for solar and batteries through a new Home Energy Fund, with repayments added to council rates.
Labour – SolarSaver, offering low-interest finance and subsidies of up to $3,000 for eligible households.
Greens – Interest-free loans for solar and batteries, along with support for community solar and improved payments for exporting electricity.
Opportunity – Low-interest financing to help households invest in solar and electrification.
So what does this mean for homeowners?
It’s encouraging to see solar becoming part of the national conversation, particularly as households look for ways to manage rising electricity costs.
These are currently election promises, not confirmed government schemes. The final details, eligibility and timing will depend on what happens after the election.
At INCON Automation, we’re keeping a close eye on these developments and what they could mean for our customers.
Would a low-interest loan or a government subsidy make you more likely to install solar at your home?
