We congratulate our team at New Zealand Steel, along with all contractors and project partners, on the outstanding achievement of launching the new electric arc furnace in Glenbrook! The project is New Zealand’s largest single-site decarbonisation project and is expected to reduce up to one million tonnes of carbon emissions each year, almost halving emissions from the Glenbrook steelworks and removing more than one per cent of New Zealand’s total annual emissions.

We're proud to share stories regularly of our teams around the world, across numerous sites and disciplines. Today, we're recognising Denise Middleton, who worked tirelessly with us for 47 years in administration and reception. Retiring recently to spend more time with family, she kindly agreed to join us for an interview about her working experience, which you can now watch below. Known for her efficiency, attention to detail and consistently friendly approach to everyone, Denise will be sorely missed.

Every day at BlueScope Australia, we emphasise the need for greater diversity, equity and inclusion at work, whether in terms of gender, s*x, age, cultural background, thought or experience. Naturally, that includes women who continue to enter non-traditional manufacturing roles; however, we also believe it's important to celebrate the hitherto unsung women who have kept our company running behind the scenes in administration. This was especially the case during more difficult times like the COVID-19 pandemic, when manufacturing was regarded appropriately as an essential industry in Australia. Denise is just one example of these remarkable women in office roles, and we thank them for their dedication.
