A good MEP consultant's fee is less than the opportunity cost of an half hour downtime.

Yet people negotiate harder than capital goods.

If you hire the cheapest MEP consultant, you are likely paying for the most expensive project.

Owners celebrate saving ₹50,000 on design fees, only to waste ₹5 Lakhs on construction costs.
Why? Because "Cheap" engineering is actually "Safe" engineering.
When a consultant is underpaid and overworked, they don't have time to calculate exact loads. They don't optimize the cable tray route. They don't right-size the ductwork.
Instead, they:
1. Apply a massive "Safety Factor" (Oversizing everything).
2. Copy-paste specs from a previous project.
3. Let the contractor decide the routing (which means more bends, more material, and more clashes).
You aren't paying for engineering. You are paying for a copy-paste job that bloats your CapEx.
Real engineering isn't about drawing lines. It's about calculating the minimum necessary material to achieve maximum performance.

Design Fees should be viewed as an Investment, not a Cost.

DESIGN IS NOT A 10 MINUTES JOB!!!!
Spending almost three days building one component with help of another skilled designer can defiantly till that design is not a 10 minutes job.
Fun fact, after a three days of meeting and research about the best way to build it, considering other factors like back-end service limitations, we are still half way from saying that we have a final build that can be ready for development.
