Under Class of Universal Shipping Bureau [USB] and registered in Panama, the ship is well controlled. This type of salvage vessel can be seen as a compromise between the very expensive and versatile ‘professional’ salvage vessels, costing 25.000 to 50.000 per day and the small vessels that go to sea, but can actually salvage next to nothing. As we are equipped with a hydraulic grabber, with underw
ater cameras and underwater led lamps, which can be described as a semi ROV, the grabber weight is about 3000 kg ,and is therefor a stable platform to do inspection on the bottom of the sea, for the moment up to a depth of 125 meter. We can do works like :
Picking up anchors and chains , as well as all other kind of articles lost in the sea, up to a weight of about 30 tons. Salvage of all kinds of things from sunken wrecks, like metals, copper, lead, zinc, tin, nickel, iron and of course even more precious metals. This can be done with a high degree of accuracy as we are equipped with a Multi Beam Sonar that gives a complete picture of the wreck in real place on the seafloor map. Once the shipwreck is properly scanned the wreck can be surveyed with the grabber and cameras and the place determined where the recovery is best to begin. The grabber is also equipped with a built in sand blower so even articles that are buried in the sand can be discovered. Of course a grabber of 3000 kilos is not the thing to do archeological work, but the sand blowing capacity can very well be used to get an impression of an old shipwreck, so the ship and equipment can also be of use to do archeological research. Mv Bela also has a high pressure breathing-air compressor on board and a decompression tank is optional. Good access for divers from and to the ship via a comfortable hinged stairs on the Port side is present. As the Bela is very stable, diving is very comfortable in comparison with a lot of other smaller vessels. The bunker capacity is almost 100 m3, the consumption is about 100 liter at a speed of 10 m/h,so the maximum range is about 10.000 nautical miles. The seaworthiness of the Bela is excellent, this type of vessel continues fishing in gale-force 10, wise or not. The Bela could be used to do deep sea trials with modern high quality alternatives for steel cable . After these trials the ship and equipment could be used to take samples from the sea bottom in order to decide the economic feasibility .
