A camshaft solenoid, also called a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid or oil control valve, controls the flow of engine oil to the camshaft phaser so the engine computer can adjust valve timing while the engine is running.

The camshaft solenoid opens and closes oil passages to the camshaft phaser based on commands from the ECM/PCM.

This allows the engine to:

Advance cam timing (open valves earlier)

Re**rd cam timing (open valves later)

By doing this, the engine improves:

Power

Fuel economy

Emissions

Engine smoothness

Address
