🩺 New Research Insight: How Ramadan Fasting Impacts Blood Sugar for Insulin-Treated Diabetic Patients
Our partnered research conducted across major cities in Indonesia leveraged real-time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) to analyze glycemic changes among people with diabetes who take daily insulin during Ramadan fasting.
🔎 Key study takeaways:
29 insulin-using diabetic participants (majority Type 2 Diabetes) were tracked with 3-minute-interval CGM readings pre-fasting and throughout Ramadan
No statistically meaningful shifts in core glucose metrics were seen pre vs during fasting:
✅ Time in Range (TIR): 67.8% → 64.4% (p=0.581)
✅ Time Above Range (TAR): 25.3% → 30.4% (p=0.275)
✅ Time Below Range (TBR): 0.2% → 0.7% (p=0.808)
Glucose variability and Glucose Management Indicator (GMI) also had no significant statistical difference
📌 Final conclusion: For insulin-treated diabetes patients with stable insulin dosing, properly undertaken Ramadan fasting does not create major disruptions to overall blood sugar control under CGM monitoring.
