PWM vs MPPT
Let's Discuss about it once again 🗣️
If you're into solar, or intending to go into it whether as an installer or user understanding your charge controller is just as important as picking the right panel or battery.
Follow me let's break it down 👇👇
There are two main types of charge controllers:
🔸 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)
Think of this like a basic switch.
It connects your panel directly to your battery, but wastes extra power when your panel voltage is higher than your battery.
Works well in small systems (like 12V system for just fans or lights).
CHEAP but ❌ INEFFICIENT.
THEN WE HAVE 👇
MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking)
This one is smart!
It reads the panel’s full voltage, and converts the extra volts into usable current.
Gives you up to 30% more efficiency than PWM, especially during cloudy days or early mornings.
Perfect for home systems, offices, inverters, fridges, water pumps, and large solar installations.
If you must use the MPPT charge controller ensure to install the right breakers, surge protectors and cables along side with it
💡 Quick Advice
If you're on a tight budget and running a simple 12V system, PWM is okay.
But if you're powering serious loads and want the best performance from your solar setup go MPPT or you go home don't compromise it!
