Nigeria Reviews National Project Monitoring and Evaluation Policy to Enhance Project Success
Nigeria has initiated a review of its National Project Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Policy to strengthen project oversight, improve accountability, and ensure efficient resource utilization. A well-structured M&E system is crucial for tracking project progress, identifying challenges, and making data-driven decisions that lead to successful project implementation.
According to Emeka Vitalis Obi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the review aims to refine implementation strategies and enhance compliance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Speaking at a Stakeholders’ Engagement on the Review of the National M&E Policy meeting in Abuja, he emphasized that effective M&E is vital for ensuring projects deliver intended outcomes and contribute to national development.“M&E is more than just tracking—it is a tool for maximizing impact. Every Naira spent should translate into measurable improvements in governance and service delivery,” Obi stated.
Olasumbo Ayinde-Yakub, Director of NM&E, highlighted that robust M&E mechanisms help detect inefficiencies early, prevent project failures, and enhance overall effectiveness.
George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reaffirmed that strengthening M&E practices will drive better project ex*****on, ensuring policies and programs achieve meaningful, long-term results.
