Highlights from the SASSO Poultry Workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State, bringing together farmers, agripreneurs, and key stakeholders for a day of impactful knowledge exchange and practical insights.

A major highlight of the SASSO Poultry Workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State was the delivery of high-level technical sessions by leading industry experts, designed to provide participants with practical, results-driven insights.

Mr Wilfred van der Krooij, Sales Manager Africa for SASSO Traditional Poultry at Hendrix Genetics, delivered a comprehensive session on the SASSO value chain, outlining strategic approaches to optimising production, maintaining quality standards, and effectively positioning within the market to achieve sustainable profitability. His presentation emphasised disciplined farm management and the importance of leveraging the full value chain for long-term success.

Complementing this, Dr Usman Jimoh Ismaila, Technical Manager at Adva Feeds and Poultry, facilitated a specialised training on ADVA Feeds varieties and their suitability for SASSO chickens. His session provided in-depth guidance on feed selection, nutritional planning, and aligning feeding regimes with the specific growth stages of SASSO poultry to maximise performance and efficiency.

Collectively, these sessions delivered critical technical knowledge, equipping participants with the expertise required to improve productivity, reduce operational losses, and build more resilient and commercially viable poultry enterprises.

Agro Preciso Limited, in collaboration with the L-PRES Project, successfully hosted the SASSO Poultry Workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State, bringing together key stakeholders across the poultry value chain for a focused capacity-building session.

The workshop recorded strong participation, with over 57 farmers, agripreneurs, and industry actors in attendance, all engaged in practical sessions aimed at improving productivity, profitability, and resilience through the adoption of SASSO poultry.

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Ph.D., Regd. Engr. (COREN), MD/CEO of Agro Preciso Limited; Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development, Kogi State, The National Project Coordinator, L-PRES Nigeria, represented by Dr. Ugwu Onwuamaeze Gariel - Animal Husbandry Specialist, L-PRES National Coordinating office, Mr. Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza Otaru, State Project Coordinator, L-PRES Kogi State; and Wilfred van der Kooij Sales Manager Africa for SASSO Traditional Poultry, who delivered insights on the SASSO value chain.

In his remarks, Nurudeen S. Lawal. Ph.D., Regd. Engr. (COREN) emphasised the strategic importance of the SASSO breed as a dual-purpose, free-range poultry solution tailored to local conditions, offering both high-quality meat and egg production. Dr. Bolarin commended the initiative, reaffirming the Kogi State Government’s commitment to supporting interventions that enhance food security, increase farmer incomes, and promote sustainable livestock development.

The Agro Preciso team, led by its MD/CEO Dr. Nurudeen S. Lawal, paid a strategic visit to the Kogi State L-PRES State Project Coordinator Mr. Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza Otaru, and team at the L-PRES office in Lokoja for a technical meeting ahead of the upcoming SASSO Poultry Workshop scheduled for March 26, 2026.

The meeting focused on aligning objectives, finalizing implementation plans, and ensuring a seamless rollout of the workshop, which is designed to strengthen poultry production across the state. Both teams discussed key areas including farmer selection, training modules, logistics, and expected outcomes to ensure maximum impact for participants.

The SASSO Poultry Workshop aims to build the capacity of poultry farmers in Kogi State by introducing them to the benefits, scalability, and effective management of the SASSO breed. Known for its dual-purpose advantages in both meat and egg production, the SASSO breed presents a viable opportunity for smallholder farmers to improve productivity, increase income, and enhance food security.

This collaboration highlights Agro Preciso’s continued commitment to supporting agricultural development and empowering farmers with practical knowledge and innovative solutions. Through partnerships like this with L-PRES, the organization is driving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s poultry sector and equipping farmers with the tools needed to scale their operations successfully.

Agro Preciso had the privilege of meeting with the National Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) and key stakeholders at the L-PRES National Coordination Office in Asokoro, Abuja.

The meeting focused on the introduction and scaling of SASSO Chicken in Nigeria, highlighting its potential to strengthen the poultry value chain, improve farmer productivity, and support smallholder farmers across participating L-PRES states.

Discussions also explored collaboration opportunities and preparations for the SASSO Poultry Sensitization & Training Program scheduled for March 26 in Lokoja, Kogi State, which will provide farmers and stakeholders with practical knowledge on managing this high-performance breed.

AGRO PRECISO CONCLUDES HISTORIC SECURITY COURTESY VISIT IN KOGI STATE

In a landmark first-of-its-kind initiative, Agro Preciso Ltd. successfully concluded a two-day security courtesy visit to all four principal security agencies in Kogi State, engaging with the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force. The delegation, led by Founder Mr. Hillary Ataguba and Managing Director/CEO Dr. Nurudeen S. Lawal, established formal relationships and received unanimous support for the company’s transformative agricultural vision. This proactive engagement demonstrates Agro Preciso’s unwavering commitment to operating as a responsible corporate citizen in harmony with state institutions.

The company proudly announces the Agro Preciso Confluence Agri-Hub and Training Academy, a landmark agricultural development project located on 400 hectares in Ero Village, Ajaokuta Local Government Area. The integrated hub will feature large-scale farming operations, modern greenhouse facilities, expanded poultry production through strategic SASSO breed partnership, and an agricultural training institute dedicated to building capacity for farmers, youth, and women. This initiative is designed to enhance food security, create sustainable employment, and drive agricultural transformation in Kogi State.

Across all engagements, Agro Preciso received enthusiastic commitments of support from security leadership. The Nigerian Army pledged full backing, recognizing agriculture as critical to national development. NSCDC encouraged collaboration on training programmes through its Agro Rangers unit. DSS provided essential security intelligence and guidance for safe operations. The Nigeria Police Command explicitly approved the company’s support request, with the Commissioner affirming that agriculture serves as the “engine of the future” for employment creation and crime reduction. With security guidance received and formal support secured, Agro Preciso is positioned to advance its vision of agricultural excellence in Kogi State.
