At The Food Merchant, Nveneer 1121 was selected to bring natural woodgrain character, warmth and visual consistency to the retail environment.

These photographs were taken recently, more than two years after the project’s estimated completion.

From the expansive woodgrain surfaces to the curved display details, the design continues to present a cohesive and welcoming space.

For us, a material’s value goes beyond how it looks on the day of installation.

It is also about how the original design intention carries through into the years that follow.

3 METRES HIGH. 2.5 METRES RADIUS.

A curved woodgrain feature wall designed to make an impact — with every detail carefully considered.

The challenge was not just achieving the required radius, but maintaining a consistent woodgrain appearance and visual rhythm across the entire curved surface.

Our experienced craftsmen carried out several rounds of testing, refining the groove width and depth to achieve the desired curvature.

With the support of CNC machining, we ensured consistent groove dimensions across every panel.

After multiple trials, we developed a reliable method to reproduce the required curve while preserving the intended woodgrain design.

These photos show the journey from workshop testing to the final installation at the exhibition.

Will the material carry the design—or simply cover the wall?

In Kingdomcity’s 20th Anniversary space, Nveneer 1513 was specified across the entrance wall and ceiling, allowing the woodgrain, light and architectural proportion to work together as one continuous language.

At this scale, woodgrain is no longer simply a surface finish.

It becomes part of the architecture—creating rhythm, warmth and continuity throughout the space.

For designers, choosing a material is never only about colour or texture.

The more important question is whether the material can carry the design intent clearly, consistently and confidently from concept into the finished space.

Because good material should do more than cover a surface.

It should help the design speak.

Why was Nveneer selected for this project?

Because the design required more than a woodgrain surface.

It required a material capable of following complex curves, maintaining visual continuity, and carrying the architect’s design intent from construction to completion.

Selected by IDC Architects Sdn. Bhd. for the interiors of the Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak, shortlisted in the PAM Awards 2026 – Interior Design category.
