Appreciate the features, AI Insider —excited to see robotics transforming everyday dining into a smarter, more engaging experience. McDonald's
🍟 McDonald's just tested humanoid robots — and the internet has thoughts.
McDonald's recently tested humanoid robots at a Shanghai restaurant to celebrate the grand opening of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. The robots were present for only five days, from March 14 to 19, as part of a limited pilot.
🤖 Developed by Keenon Robotics, the robots wore McDonald's signature red-and-yellow uniforms and performed tasks like greeting customers, assisting with service, and delivering food. However, McDonald's Chief Impact Officer Jon Banner clarified that the robots were not involved in any actual service or operational functions and were simply there for a temporary greeting at the museum's request.
⚠️ The trial sparked widespread debate about automation, job displacement, and the future of the service industry, though McDonald's has not confirmed any plans for a broader rollout.
