AI is becoming increasingly embedded in software-defined vehicles (SDVs), making robust validation and safety assurance more critical than ever.

We’re pleased to announce our research collaboration with the Centre for Assuring Autonomy (CfAA) at the University of York (UK) to advance practical approaches for the safe deployment of AI in automotive systems.

The collaboration will focus on developing methods to:

• Validate AI-based systems used in SDVs

• Generate robust evidence of AI safety and reliability

• Address emerging automotive industry requirements

• Reduce development and deployment risks

• Accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled vehicle technologies

Teams often say they have end-to-end tests.

But ask what those tests actually validate, and the answer is often: “We check that the confirmation page appears.” That’s not truly end-to-end. It’s UI regression testing with a longer ex*****on path.

The highest-value defects usually happen across system boundaries,not within the front end itself.

- Authentication tokens failing to propagate between services

- Discounts calculated correctly in the UI but incorrectly on the invoice

- Records written to one system but never reaching the next

- Data inconsistencies between APIs, databases, and downstream services

If the test stops once the page renders, it has only proven that the UI rendered successfully.

True end-to-end testing should validate the entire business transaction across every critical handoff, from the user action through the underlying systems to the final outcome.
