Severe weather and rising flood levels can cause critical damage to diesel generators. When a generator becomes fully flooded, attempting to restart it without a properly engineered restoration process can lead to catastrophic mechanical or electrical failure. A systematic, safety-focused approach is essential.

🔒 Critical Safety Precautions (Must Follow)

▪Never attempt to start a flooded generator under any condition.

▪Disconnect all electrical sources and battery connections immediately.

▪Isolate the fuel supply and battery terminals before beginning any inspection.

▪Avoid touching the generator while standing in water to prevent electric shock.

▪Do not open panels with wet hands or work near energized circuits.

▪Do not test or power any component until a complete inspection is completed.

▪Avoid heat guns, blowtorches, or open flames—use controlled air-drying methods only.

▪Replace all oils, lubricants, and filters if any sign of contamination is detected.

▪Conduct full electrical diagnostics—alternator insulation, MCCB checks, control wiring tests.

▪Perform complete mechanical inspections—engine, mounts, radiator, coolant lines, and filtration systems.

⚙ Technical Restoration Procedure

1️⃣ Drain, flush, and replace all fluids—fuel, engine oil, and coolant.

2️⃣ Remove and clean air filters, fuel tanks, intakes, and exhaust paths.

3️⃣ Check for hydrolock: remove injectors and hand-crank the engine to release trapped water safely.

4️⃣ Test all electrical circuits and alternator windings using proper insulation resistance testers.

5️⃣ Ensure complete drying, component integrity, and corrosion-free surfaces before reassembly.

6️⃣ Rebuild, recalibrate, and test the generator only after confirming total mechanical and electrical safety.
