Interview Insight: The Strategic Value of Marine Data in the Offshore Wind Era 🌊

In a recent interview with Engineering Journal, PyeongJoong Kim, COO of UST21, highlighted the growing importance of marine data as offshore wind development accelerates. Seabed topography and subsurface geological data are no longer just survey outputs—they have become critical reference datasets used across the entire offshore wind project lifecycle, including site investigation, design, construction, and operations.

“UST21 aims to contribute to the sustainable growth of Korea’s offshore wind industry and the advancement of marine technology autonomy by pursuing a technology strategy that considers the quality, reliability, and strategic value of marine geophysical data.”

We were pleased to participate in SMART ENERGY WEEK Japan 2026 this March, with a particular focus on Wind Expo, where we followed the latest trends and developments in the offshore wind industry. ⚡🌏

During the trip, we also visited our local partner Fugro Japan's office, strengthening our cooperation and exchanging views on future opportunities in the blue economy sector. 🤝

The UST21 team recently visited our partners at the Fugro Indonesia office. It was a great opportunity to meet with colleagues we work closely with and exchange insights on both the Korean and Indonesian markets. 🤝

During the visit, we explored the office working environment and toured the newly established Geotechnical Lab, gaining deeper insight into Fugro Indonesia’s technical expertise and capabilities.

Fire Drill Completed🚒🧯🧑‍🚒

Today, our teams at UST21 and Fugro UST21 completed a scheduled fire drill — an essential step in strengthening our emergency preparedness and ensuring everyone knows how to respond quickly and safely.

Following the drill, we also held a fire-safety training session, where our team learned practical guidelines on using fire extinguishers correctly and understanding common mistakes to avoid. Sessions like this help turn knowledge into confidence, and confidence into safe action.

We’re proud of the focus and cooperation shown by both teams. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security & Environment) and our belief that safety is built through consistent practice and shared responsibility.
