●●● High voltage fuses :
protective devices for electrical systems operating above 1,000 volts, designed to interrupt excessive current from overloads or short circuits.
They are critical for safeguarding equipment like transformers and substations, preventing damage, and ensuring the reliability of power distribution networks.
• Protect equipment:
High voltage fuses prevent damage to expensive components such as transformers, capacitor banks, and switchgear from over currents.
• Ensure safety:
They prevent hazards like electric fires that can result from excessive current.

● How They Work :
​At its core, an HV fuse consists of a fusible element (usually silver or copper) surrounded by an arc-extinguishing medium, most commonly high-purity silica sand.

• ​The Fault:
When a short circuit or overload occurs, the current spikes.
• ​Melting:
The high current heats the element past its melting point almost instantly.
• ​The Arc:
As the element vaporizes, an electrical arc forms across the gap.
• ​Extinction:
The surrounding sand melts, turning into glass (fulgurite). This absorbs the arc's energy, cools it, and provides a high-resistance path that chokes the current to zero.
