Amayama FAQ #4 - "> 1" Availability

Q: Doesn't "> 1" mean that there's at least one unit in stock? Also I saw that the UAE has 3 units in stock, but when I ordered it, the order was cancelled 1 week later because it was "out of stock". Why did this happen?

A: "> 1" shown in the availability (not "stock") column on a part number details page means that at the last availability check, there was at least 1 unit available. "> 1" is shown when a part is regularly stocked, and is likely to be restocked in the near future. Although Amayama Trading can't show "live updates" for the number of units in stock at the supplier (see: "Amayama FAQ #1 - Availability checks" post below for more information), according to the sales records for that part number it is very likely to be in stock in some quantity. As always, it's never possible to 100% guarantee stock availability under these circumstances, so Amayama Trading very much appreciates our clients' understanding concerning stock availability and the potential for orders to be cancelled despite the likelihood of parts being available on a regular basis.

The suppliers in the UAE provide daily stock availability updates and while this frequency of updates covers most situations, there is still the possibility that orders can be cancelled between availability checks from one day to the next. The UAE is home to regional distributors who supply massive amounts of parts globally, with stock levels fluctuating rapidly throughout the day. As Amayama Trading cannot provide live updates, any figure shown in the "Availability" column on the part number details page will be from the most recent availability check. We understand that this situation is not ideal and we are constantly reviewing all factors to be able to provide a more streamlined and dependable service. Again we very much appreciate our clients' understanding of these matters and continued patronage.

Amayama FAQ #3 - Increasing shipping charges

Q: The shipping charge in the Shopping cart was lower. Why did the shipping charge increase when the order was approved for payment?

A: There are around 3 million part numbers on the database and Amayama Trading may have never dealt with many of those part numbers before. When a part number is added to the Amayama Trading database, the manuafcturer will only provide a price upon request. Any other data is not provided and is added by our staff when that part is purchased and received at our warehouses for inspection.

That means that when a part number is added to the shopping cart, it may not have weight (or size) data. The estimated shipping charge shown in the shopping cart will be lower than actually required. Amayama Trading staff must intervene and calculate the estimated shipping charge after approximate weight and size data for all the part numbers in the order are combined. The resulting shipping charge is often higher than what was shown in the shopping cart.

Amayama Trading is adding accurate weight and size data to hundreds of part numbers every day so as time goes on, shipping charge estimates will be more accurate as a result.
However new part numbers are being added by manufacturers every day as well, so it's an ongoing issue.

Amayama Trading very much appreciates your understanding concerning shipping charge estimates.

Amayama FAQ #2 - "Price Up" Cancellations

Q: What is a "Price Up" Cancellation, and why does it happen?

A: A Price Up cancellation occurs when the manufacturer schedules a production run with an OEM for a particular part number, but the prices of materials etc increase the total price of the production run. This effects the final price of the part when it is eventually distrubuted to various suppliers.

This causes a problem for the suppliers like Amayama Trading because the manufacturer cannot predict if there will be a price increase (or decrease). Only the previous lower price for that part number can be used as a guide for price lists. Also, the manufacturers will not absorb any price increases, so it's up to the supplier to offer a solution.

Amayama Trading understands the situation from the customer's point of view and will not cancel a Price up part number if the price increase is within 10% of the previous price. The part will be supplied at the previous price except where the value of the part is under JPY 1000/USD 6.68.

For this reason the part is cancelled and the customer is given the choice of reordering the part at the higher price, or leave it cancelled and receive a refund.

You can use Amayama account credit to pay for orders!

Our helpful staff will be able to use your account credit for any order value. Even if the amount in credit in your account is less than the value of an unpaid order, the account credit can be used and only the outstanding amount will be remaining when the order changes to "Pending payment" status.

Please let our staff know when you submit a new order if you wish to use your account credit to make payment/part-payment.

*Please note that in the case of an order being completely cancelled, an automatic full refund will occur for that order's payment.

For everyone who previously wasn't able to use their account credit and made payment in full after requesting a refund, we thank you so much for your cooperation.

Amayama FAQ #1 - Availability checks

Q: Why do availability checks take 1 - 2 days?

A: Amayama Trading does not have access to any of the Japanese suppliers' stock databases, so the Japanese suppliers will only check availability "upon request". It's a time consuming task which (for the supplier) may not end in a sale, so limitations are put in place by them to ease the workload.

To make up for some of those limitations, Amayama Trading uses its own sales records to estimate availability for frequently selling part numbers. While this is generally accurate, it cannot be relied upon in all cases. For this reason an agreement from the customer is required when going through the Amayama checkout process to acknowledge that availability can change after payment has been made.

Did you ever hear about the surprisingly low used car prices on Yahoo Japan Auctions?

Once upon a time, in 2004, I was browsing Yahoo Japan auctions and came across this 1988 S13 Nissan Silvia Q's. It was in very good condition for its age, only lightly modified, and (so I was told) only had 3 previous owners. Modifications were: Tein coilover suspesion, Cusco 1.5 way L*D, Defi Vacuum gauge, Cusco strut brace, and Enkei Racing S wheels.

The winning bid for the Silvia? It was 70,000 JPY (USD 480.00 at current exchange rates). The photos were taken on the day I took possession of it.

Does anyone else have a bargain hunting story? Please share it with us below! 🙂

"Hi I am Aarian..."

One of Amayama's staff members in Japan took photos of this derelict 1998 Toyota Corona in a parking area in Kobe Port Island on the weekend. It's been there so long that the tyres are now fully flat and disintegrating.

The car was first spotted in 2016(!) in the same parking spot and hasn't moved since! It's covered in a thick layer of dust and grime, with moss forming in some areas. However, after removing some dust from the window revealed that the interior looks to be in perfect condition.

A local resident with a sense of humour even wrote "Hi I am Aarian" (Hi I am an Alien) on the front fender! 😂

So the obvious questions are "Why leave a perfectly good car sitting there?", and "How much is the parking fee?"
The answers to those are varied, but the most likely scenario is (sadly) that the owner passed away, and their family isn't willing to pick the car up due to the excessive parking fee required to do so. The Parking company is not willing to (or not legally able to) spend money to have the car removed and recyled either, so it sits there idefinitely.

If anyone else has further insight then please let us know!
