Emanuel Gargano’s professional life moves between the creative energy of New York and the spiritual quiet of his workshop in Assisi. This dualism shapes an artistic approach that refuses to be confined to a single field, shifting seamlessly from industrial design to pure art. Guided by a fascination with natural elements, he molds matter to search for its innermost soul, successfully conpenetrating the concepts of “emptiness” and “nothingness” into physical space. His highly celebrated career includes major international recognitions such as the Compasso d’Oro, Archiproducts Design Award, and German Design Award.

“La rivoluzione è liberare lo spazio dal superfluo per tornare alla materia pura”  Emanuel Gargano ha chiuso il ciclo di talk HYLEtech con una riflessione potente sul concetto di Rivoluzione. In un giorno simbolo di liberazione, il suo intervento ci ha spinto a guardare oltre i secoli di architettura intesa come “massa” e protezione. Se un tempo servivano cinque metri di spessore per definire un limite, oggi la rivoluzione sta nel condensare quella forza in un solo centimetro.
Gargano ci ha parlato di una “pelle” che torna a essere struttura, integrando luce e tecnologia in modo invisibile, senza “sporcare” il progetto con scatole di derivazione o sensori esterni. Un sogno che permette all’architetto di comporre lo spazio come un’opera astratta, dove la tecnologia non è un’aggiunta, ma l’anima stessa della materia. Un ritorno alla leggerezza che avrebbe reso felici i maestri del Moderno.

“Revolution is about freeing space from the superfluous to return to pure matter”  Emanuel Gargano closed the HYLEtech talk series with a powerful reflection on the concept of Revolution. On a day symbolizing liberation, his talk urged us to look beyond centuries of architecture conceived as “mass” and protection. Where once five meters of thickness were needed to define a boundary, today’s revolution lies in condensing that same strength into a single centimeter.
Gargano spoke of a “skin” that becomes structure once again, integrating light and technology invisibly, without “cluttering” the design with junction boxes or external sensors. A dream that allows the architect to compose space like an abstract work of art, where technology is not an add-on, but the very soul of the material. A return to lightness that would have delighted the masters of Modernism.

“La sostenibilità non è solo questione di certificati, ma di intelligenza e sensibilità” 
Francisco Mangado ha portato sul palco di HYLEtech una riflessione densa e necessaria: la vera architettura sostenibile si misura nella capacità di un progetto di rispondere al proprio contesto.
Per Mangado, la tecnologia deve tornare a essere uno strumento nelle mani dell’architetto per gestire le risorse in modo etico, logico ed economico.
Attraverso HYLEtech, l’architetto spagnolo esplora la possibilità di recuperare spazio vitale e flessibilità, immaginando edifici capaci di evolversi nel tempo senza perdere la propria anima.
Un invito a riscoprire la sostanza del progetto, dove la bellezza è il risultato di un pensiero consapevole e del rispetto profondo per il territorio.

“La mia casa mi ha addestrato a essere un architetto”
Gary Chang ha portato sul palco di “Light in Matter - Architectural variations” il racconto di una vita intera trascorsa nello stesso spazio a Hong Kong: una sfida lunga 50 anni per trasformare pochi metri quadrati in un universo infinito. Da quel “Domestic Transformer” che lo ha reso celebre nel mondo, Chang oggi vede nella tecnologia di HYLEtech il naturale alleato per un nuovo paradigma dell’abitare.
Non serve occupare più suolo, serve abitare meglio lo spazio che abbiamo. Traendo ispirazione dalla luce che entra dalle finestre e dalla fluidità del movimento, il suo intervento ci ha spinto a ripensare gli elementi più semplici, come una porta o uno spessore, trasformandoli in sistemi intelligenti capaci di adattarsi ai nostri bisogni. Perché il vero lusso non è la dimensione, ma la libertà di trasformazione.

“My home trained me to be an architect”
Gary Chang brought to “Light in Matter - Architectural variations” the story of a lifetime spent in the same Hong Kong apartment: a 50-year challenge to transform a few square meters into an infinite universe. From the “Domestic Transformer” that made him world-famous, Chang now sees HYLEtech technology as the natural ally for a new living paradigm.
We don’t need to occupy more land; we need to better inhabit the space we already have. Drawing inspiration from the light streaming through windows and the fluidity of movement, his talk urged us to rethink the simplest elements, like a door or a wall’s thickness, turning them into intelligent systems capable of adapting to our needs. Because true luxury is not size, but the freedom of transformation.

Sul palco di HYLEtech, Marco Casamonti ha esplorato una sfida che affonda le radici nella storia: da Brunelleschi fino alla natura più istintiva, come quella degli uccelli che intrecciano fili di paglia per costruire un nido. Ispirandosi alla potenza metafisica del Teatro Continuo di Burri, il suo intervento ha indagato il paradosso di uno spazio che ha un inizio ma non una fine.
Ha descritto HYLEtech come una sostanza dall’anima duplice che sceglie di non svelarsi del tutto, ricordandoci che il vero fascino dell’architettura risiede proprio in ciò che ancora non conosciamo.

Is it possible to generate infinity starting from a finite element?
On the HYLEtech stage, Marco Casamonti explored a challenge rooted in history: from Brunelleschi to the most instinctive forces of nature, much like birds weaving strands of straw to build a nest. Drawing inspiration from the metaphysical power of Burri’s “Teatro Continuo,” his talk delved into the paradox of a space with a beginning but no end.
He described HYLEtech as a substance with a dual soul that chooses not to fully reveal itself, reminding us that the true allure of architecture lies precisely in what we do not yet know.

Maria Claudia Clemente e Francesco Isidori (Studio Labics) hanno portato sul palco di HYLEtech una visione dove il rigore incontra la leggerezza. Non si tratta solo di costruire pareti, ma di progettare soglie: spazi sottili capaci di connettere l’interno con il mondo esterno. Dalla precisione millimetrica della struttura alla flessibilità dell’uso, il loro racconto in Triennale ci ha ricordato che ogni apertura è un invito alla relazione. Un’architettura che non ingombra, ma ordina la vita.

Han Tümertekin ci ha portato dentro il suo processo creativo per HYLEtech. Con un gesto quasi scultoreo, ha descritto la ricerca di quel "vuoto", di quell'atmosfera essenziale capace di accogliere la vita. Dai primi schizzi tracciati freneticamente su fogli gialli in un aeroporto, fino alla precisione millimetrica della sua installazione: un viaggio dove lo spazio si contrae e i corpi rispondono. Un’emozione che ancora vibra tra queste immagini.

Han Tümertekin guided us through his creative process for HYLEtech. With a sculptural touch, he described his search for that negative space an essential atmosphere designed to host and embrace life.
From the first frantic sketches on yellow paper in an airport to the millimeter precision of his installation: a journey where space contracts and bodies respond. An energy that still resonates through these images.
